Epilim 200 Tablet

Active Ingredient: Sodium Valproate 200 mg

Manufacturer: While Epilim is a well-known brand, the specific manufacturer for the 200 mg strength can vary. In Bangladesh, Synovia Pharma PLC manufactures an "Epilim Chrono 200 mg" tablet. Sanofi is also a known manufacturer of Epilim products. Check the specific packaging for the exact manufacturer in your location.

Indications: Epilim is indicated for the treatment of various types of epilepsy, including:

  • Generalized seizures (tonic-clonic, absence, myoclonic, atonic)
  • Partial seizures (simple, complex, secondarily generalized)
  • Mixed seizure types
  • Prophylaxis of febrile convulsions
  • Prophylaxis of post-traumatic epilepsy Epilim is also indicated for the treatment of bipolar disorder and prophylaxis of migraine.

Dosage and Administration: Dosage is individualized and determined by the physician. General guidelines:

  • Adult Epilepsy: Initial dose is usually 600 mg daily in 2 divided doses, increasing every 3 days by 200 mg until seizure control is achieved (usual range 1-2 g daily).
  • Children (over 20 kg): Initial dose 400 mg daily in divided doses, increased until control (usual range 20-30 mg/kg daily, max 35 mg/kg daily).
  • Children (up to 20 kg): Initial dose 20 mg/kg daily in divided doses.
  • Bipolar Disorder: Initial dose 600 mg daily in 2-3 divided doses, maintenance usually 1000-2000 mg daily.
  • Migraine Prophylaxis: 400-600 mg daily, some may require higher doses. Epilim tablets may be given once or twice daily and should be swallowed whole, not crushed or chewed, preferably after food.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include:

  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation
  • Stomach pain
  • Drowsiness, dizziness
  • Headache
  • Changes in appetite or weight
  • Tremor
  • Hair loss

Potentially serious side effects include liver problems, pancreatitis, unusual bleeding or bruising, and severe allergic reactions. Seek immediate medical attention if these occur.

Precautions:

  • Inform your doctor about any pre-existing liver or kidney problems, pancreatitis history, bleeding disorders, or if pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Sodium valproate can harm an unborn baby. Effective contraception is essential for women of childbearing potential.
