D-Metro

Presentation: D-Metro, available in Bangladesh, is a brand name for products containing Metronidazole. It is available in tablet form, typically in strengths of 200 mg and 400 mg, and as an oral suspension (200 mg/5 ml).

Indications: D-Metro (Metronidazole) is indicated for the treatment of various infections caused by susceptible anaerobic bacteria and protozoa. These include:

• Amoebiasis (intestinal and extra-intestinal).
• Trichomoniasis.
• Giardiasis.
• Bacterial vaginosis.
• Anaerobic bacterial infections such as peritonitis, brain abscess, pelvic infections, and post-operative wound infections.
• Acute ulcerative gingivitis.
• Anaerobically infected leg ulcers and pressure sores.
• Acute dental infections.
• Helicobacter pylori eradication (as part of combination therapy).
• Prevention of post-operative infections caused by anaerobic bacteria.
• Antibiotic-associated pseudomembranous colitis.

Dosage and Administration: The dosage and duration of treatment with D-Metro depend on the type and severity of the infection, as well as the patient's age and weight.

• Tablets: Usually administered orally, with or after meals. Swallow the tablets whole with water.
• Oral Suspension: Shake the bottle well before use. Administer the dose as directed by the physician, usually at least one hour before a meal.

Always follow the prescribing physician's instructions for the correct dosage and duration of treatment.

Side Effects: Common side effects associated with D-Metro (Metronidazole) may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, a metallic taste, headache, and abdominal discomfort. Less common side effects can include dizziness, drowsiness, loss of appetite, and skin rash. Darkening of urine may also occur.

Precautions: D-Metro (Metronidazole) is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to Metronidazole or other nitroimidazole derivatives. Consumption of alcohol should be avoided during treatment and for at least one day after completing the course, as it may lead to a disulfiram-like reaction. Caution is advised in patients with central nervous system disorders, severe liver impairment, or kidney disease. D-Metro may interact with certain other medications.

Use in Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: D-Metro should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed and the potential benefits outweigh the risks. Metronidazole is excreted in breast milk, and breastfeeding is generally not recommended during treatment. Consult a healthcare professional for advice.

Storage: Store D-Metro tablets and oral suspension at room temperature, protected from light and moisture. Keep all medications out of the reach of children.
