Cipro A Drop - (0.30%) is an eye/ear drop containing Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride equivalent to Ciprofloxacin 3 mg per ml (0.30%). It is manufactured by The ACME Laboratories Ltd.
Indications:
Cipro A 0.30% ophthalmic solution is indicated for the treatment of superficial ocular infections (eye infections) and ear infections caused by susceptible strains of bacteria, including:
- Eye Infections: Corneal ulcers, conjunctivitis, and blepharitis.
- Ear Infections: Otitis externa and acute otitis media. It can also be used as prophylaxis in otic surgeries.
Dosage and Administration:
For Eye Infections:
- Corneal Ulcers: Instill 2 drops into the affected eye every 15 minutes for the first 6 hours, then 2 drops every 30 minutes for the remainder of the first day. On the second day, instill 2 drops hourly. On days 3 through 14, instill 2 drops every four hours. Treatment may continue after 14 days if the cornea has not re-epithelialized.
- Bacterial Conjunctivitis/Blepharitis: Instill 1-2 drops into the conjunctival sac(s) every two hours while awake for two days, then 1-2 drops every four hours while awake for the next five days.
For Ear Infections:
- Instill 2-3 drops into the affected ear every 2-3 hours initially, reducing the frequency as the infection is controlled. Treatment should continue for at least 7 days.
Important Considerations:
- This medication is for external use only (eye or ear).
- Avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface, including the eye or ear, to prevent contamination.
- Do not wear contact lenses during treatment for eye infections.
- Complete the full course of treatment, even if you feel better.
- If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not use two doses at once.
Side Effects:
The most frequently reported side effect is local burning or discomfort. Other possible side effects include:
- Eye: stinging, burning, itching, foreign body sensation, blurred vision, crusting of the eyelid margin, crystals/scales, conjunctival redness, tearing, photophobia, corneal infiltrates, and decreased vision.
- Ear: discomfort or pain in the ear, itching.
- A bad taste may be noticed after instillation.
Precautions:
- Inform your doctor if you have any allergies to ciprofloxacin or other quinolone antibiotics.
- Prolonged use may result in the overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi. If a superinfection occurs, discontinue use and start alternative therapy.
- Discontinue use at the first sign of a skin rash or any other sign of hypersensitivity reaction.
- Use with caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding; consult your doctor.
Storage:
Store below 30°C, protected from light. Do not use for more than one month after first opening the bottle. Keep out of reach of children.
