Cef-3 50ml

  • Cef-3 50ml (100mg/5ml): This means each 5 ml of the reconstituted suspension contains 100 mg of Cefixime. The total amount of Cefixime in a 50ml bottle would be 1000 mg.

Indications:

Cef-3 (Cefixime) is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections such as:

  • Upper and lower respiratory tract infections (e.g., pharyngitis, tonsillitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, sinusitis, otitis media)
  • Urinary tract infections (e.g., cystitis, pyelonephritis)
  • Uncomplicated gonorrhea
  • Typhoid fever
  • Other susceptible infections of the skin, soft tissues, and biliary tract.

Dosage and Administration for Children:

The usual dose for children is 8 mg/kg/day, given once daily or in two divided doses for 7-14 days, depending on the severity of the infection.

Based on the strength of the Cef-3 50ml suspension:

  • For Cef-3 50ml (100mg/5ml):
    • 6 months up to 1 year: Approximately 3.75 ml daily.
    • 1-4 years: Approximately 5 ml daily.
    • 5-10 years:Approximately 10 ml daily.

For accurate dosing, it is essential to know the exact strength of the Cef-3 50ml suspension you have and to follow the doctor's prescription based on the child's weight and the specific infection being treated.

Directions for Reconstitution:

To prepare the suspension, you will need to add a specific amount of boiled and cooled water to the powder in the bottle. The exact amount of water will be mentioned in the product leaflet. For a 50ml suspension, it's often around 35 ml of water added in portions, shaking well after each addition until the powder is fully mixed.
