Presentation: Each tablet contains Calcium Carbonate BP equivalent to elemental Calcium and Vitamin D3 BP (Cholecalciferol). The specific amounts of elemental Calcium and Vitamin D3 vary by manufacturer; refer to the product packaging available in Bangladesh. Common strengths include Calcium 500mg with Vitamin D3 200 IU or Calcium 500mg with Vitamin D3 400 IU.
Indications: Treatment and prevention of Calcium and Vitamin D3 deficiency. Used in conditions such as osteoporosis, osteomalacia, and rickets. Also used as a supplement during periods of increased demand like childhood growth, pregnancy, and lactation, and in elderly individuals. May also be used as an adjunct in the management of hypoparathyroidism and tetany.
Dosage and Administration: Adults: Usually 1-2 tablets daily or as directed by a physician. It is often recommended to take the tablets with or just after meals to enhance calcium absorption. Swallow whole with water. Dosage for children should be determined by a healthcare professional based on their age and specific needs.
Side Effects: Generally well-tolerated. Possible mild gastrointestinal disturbances such as constipation, flatulence, nausea, or stomach upset. In rare cases, high doses may lead to hypercalcemia with symptoms like nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, increased thirst, and increased urination.
Precautions: Contraindicated in patients with hypercalcemia, hyperparathyroidism, and kidney stones (renal calculi, nephrolithiasis). Use cautiously in patients with renal impairment, heart disease, or a history of kidney stones. May interact with certain medications such as digoxin, thiazide diuretics, some antibiotics (tetracyclines, quinolones), and other calcium or Vitamin D supplements; consult a physician.
Storage: Store in a cool and dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
