Cabergol

Presentation:Tablets containing Cabergoline.Available in various strengths (e.g., 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg) per tablet, as indicated on the packaging. Supplied in strips or bottles.

Indications: Cabergol is indicated for the treatment of hyperprolactinemic disorders, including:

  • Prolactinomas (pituitary tumors that secrete prolactin).
  • Idiopathic hyperprolactinemia (elevated prolactin levels with no identifiable cause).
  • Hyperprolactinemia due to pituitary stalk interruption.

It is also used for the inhibition of physiological lactation (stopping breast milk production) shortly after childbirth, if medically indicated.

Dosage and Administration:The dosage of Cabergol is highly individualized and determined by the physician based on the specific condition being treated, prolactin levels, and patient response.

  • Treatment of Hyperprolactinemia:The usual initial dose is 0.25 mg once or twice a week. The dose may be gradually increased by 0.25 mg or 0.5 mg at monthly intervals until the desired prolactin levels are achieved. The therapeutic dose usually ranges from 0.5 mg to 4.5 mg per week, administered in one or two doses.
  • Inhibition of Physiological Lactation:The usual recommended dose is 1 mg as a single dose within the first day postpartum.

Cabergol tablets are usually taken orally, with or without food.It is important to follow the physician's instructions precisely regarding the dosage schedule and any adjustments.

Side Effects: Side effects are generally dose-dependent and more likely to occur during the first two weeks of therapy. Common side effects may include:

  • Nausea
  • Headache
  • Dizziness/Vertigo
  • Fatigue
  • Abdominal pain/Discomfort
  • Constipation
  • Vomiting

Less common side effects may include:

  • Postural hypotension (low blood pressure upon standing)

  • Depression
  • Somnolence (drowsiness)
  • Paresthesia (tingling or numbness)

Rare but potentially serious side effects may include cardiac valvulopathy (heart valve problems), pulmonary fibrosis, and pleural effusion.Patients on long-term, high-dose therapy should undergo regular cardiac monitoring.

Precautions: Before starting Cabergol, inform your physician about any pre-existing medical conditions, including:

  • History of cardiac disorders, particularly valvular heart disease.
  • Pulmonary disorders, including fibrotic lung disease.
  • Hepatic or renal impairment.
  • History of psychotic disorders.
  • Peptic ulcer or gastrointestinal bleeding.
  • Pregnancy or планирование беременности (planning pregnancy).
  • Breastfeeding.

Cabergol may interact with other medications, including dopamine antagonists (e.g., metoclopramide, phenothiazines), and antihypertensive agents.Inform your physician about all medications you are currently taking.

Due to the potential for drowsiness, caution should be exercised while driving or operating machinery, especially during the initial stages of treatment.

Regular monitoring of prolactin levels is usually required to assess the effectiveness of the treatment. In cases of long-term therapy, particularly at higher doses, regular cardiac evaluations may be necessary.
