AZ 35ml usually refers to a 35ml bottle of a suspension containing Azithromycin. Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections. The concentration is typically 200mg/5ml. This means that in every 5 milliliters of the reconstituted suspension, there are 200 milligrams of Azithromycin. Therefore, a 35ml bottle of this suspension would contain a total of 1400mg of Azithromycin (200mg/5ml * 35ml).

Indications:

Azithromycin is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible bacteria, including:

  • Respiratory tract infections: such as bronchitis, pneumonia, sinusitis, pharyngitis, and tonsillitis.
  • Skin and soft tissue infections.
  • Ear infections (otitis media).
  • Sexually transmitted infections (STIs): such as non-gonococcal urethritis and cervicitis due to Chlamydia trachomatis.
  • Typhoid fever.

Dosage:

The dosage of Azithromycin suspension (AZ 35ml) depends on the age, weight of the child, and the type and severity of the infection. It is crucial to follow the doctor's prescription carefully.

General dosage guidelines for children (based on a 200mg/5ml suspension):

  • The usual dose is 10 mg/kg once daily for 3 days.
  • For a child weighing 15-25 kg: the dose is 200 mg (5ml) once daily for 3 days.
  • For a child weighing 26-35 kg: the dose is 300 mg (7.5ml) once daily for 3 days.
  • For a child weighing 36-45 kg: the dose is 400 mg (10ml) once daily for 3 days.
  • In typhoid fever, the dose is usually 500 mg (12.5ml) once daily for 7-10 days.

How to Prepare the Suspension:

  1. Shake the bottle well to loosen the powder.
  2. Add the specified amount of boiled and cooled water up to the mark on the bottle label. This is usually mentioned in the product leaflet. For a 35ml bottle, it's likely you'll add water to a certain volume to make the final 35ml.
  3. Shake the bottle thoroughly until the powder is completely mixed with the water to form a uniform suspension.

Important Considerations:

  • Administer the suspension using a suitable measuring device like a teaspoon or oral syringe to ensure accurate dosing.
  • Azithromycin suspension should be taken at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal.
  • Do not take antacids containing aluminum or magnesium within 2 hours before or after taking Azithromycin.
  • Complete the full course of treatment as prescribed by the doctor, even if your child feels better. Stopping early may lead to the infection returning.
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue withthe regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose.

Side Effects:

Common side effects may include:

  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal pain

If these side effects persist or become bothersome, consult your doctor. Serious side effects are rare but can occur. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any signs of an allergic reaction (rash, itching, swelling, difficulty breathing) or other severe symptoms.

Always consult a doctor or pharmacist for specific instructions and dosage recommendations for your child's condition.
