Ariprex Tablet
Ariprex tablet contains Aripiprazole as the active ingredient. It is an atypical antipsychotic medication. In Bangladesh, Ariprex is available in 2 mg, 10 mg, and 15 mg strengths and is manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC.
Indications: Ariprex is indicated for the treatment of:
- Schizophrenia in adults and adolescents (13-17 years).
- Bipolar disorder (manic and mixed episodes) in adults and children (10-17 years).
- Adjunctive treatment of major depressive disorder in adults.
- Irritability associated with autistic disorder in children and adolescents (6-17 years).
- Agitation associated with schizophrenia or bipolar mania.
Dosage and Administration: The dosage varies depending on the condition being treated, the patient's age, and individual response. It is crucial to follow your doctor's instructions. General dosage guidelines:
- Schizophrenia (Adults): Initial dose is usually 10-15 mg once daily. The recommended dose is also in the range of 10-15 mg/day, with a maximum dose of 30 mg/day.
- Schizophrenia (Adolescents 13-17 years): Initial dose is typically 2 mg/day, increasing to a recommended dose of 10 mg/day, with a maximum of 30 mg/day.
- Bipolar Mania (Adults): Initial dose for monotherapy is usually 15 mg once daily, with a maximum of 30 mg/day. As an adjunct to lithium or valproate, the initial dose is 10-15 mg/day, with a maximum of 30 mg/day.
- Bipolar Mania (Children and Adolescents 10-17 years): Initial dose is 2 mg/day, increasing to a recommended dose of 10 mg/day, with a maximum of 30 mg/day.
- Adjunctive Treatment of Major Depressive Disorder (Adults): Initial dose is 2-5 mg/day, with a recommended dose of 5-10 mg/day and a maximum of 15 mg/day.
- Irritability Associated with Autistic Disorder (Children and Adolescents 6-17 years): Initial dose is 2 mg/day, with a recommended dose of 5-10 mg/day and a maximum of 15 mg/day.
Ariprex tablets are usually taken once daily, without regard to meals.
Side Effects: Common side effects may include:
- Nausea and vomiting
- Constipation
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Sleepiness (somnolence)
- Insomnia (difficulty sleeping)
- Anxiety
- Restlessness
- Akathisia (inability to stay still)
- Tremor
- Fatigue
- Blurred vision
- Increased saliva production
- Indigestion
- Abdominal pain
- Increased or decreased appetite
- Weight gain
Less common but potentially serious side effects can occur. It is important to report any unusual symptoms to your doctor.
Precautions:
- Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular or cerebrovascular disease, conditions predisposing to hypotension, history of seizures, diabetes, and elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis.
- Aripiprazole may cause drowsiness and dizziness, impairing the ability to drive or operate machinery.
- Avoid alcohol consumption while taking Ariprex.
- Inform your doctor if you have a history of suicidal thoughts or behavior.
- Be aware of potential metabolic changes, including hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia, and weight gain.
- Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Contraindications: Ariprex is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to aripiprazole or any of its components.
Drug Interactions: Ariprex can interact with various medications. Inform your doctor about all the medicines you are currently taking, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, and herbal supplements. Significant interactions can occur with drugs that affect CYP2D6 and CYP3A4 enzymes.
Storage: Store below 30°C, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
