Androgel 16.2mg 

Presentation:Androgel 16.2mg is a clear, colorless hydroalcoholic gel packaged in a multi-dose pump dispenser.Each pump actuation delivers a specific amount of gel containing 20.25mg of testosterone.The size of the dispenser may vary.

Indications:Androgel is indicated for testosterone replacement therapy in adult males for conditions associated with a deficiency orabsence of endogenous testosterone (male hypogonadism).This includes primary hypogonadism (e.g., testicular failure) and hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (e.g., hypothalamic or pituitary disorders).The diagnosis should be confirmed by clinical features and biochemical tests.

Dosage and Administration: Androgel 16.2mg is for topical use only. The gel should be applied once daily, preferably in the morning, to clean, dry, intact skin of the shoulders and upper arms.Do not apply to the genitals.

The starting dose is usually two pump actuations (40.5mg of testosterone) applied once daily. The dose may be adjusted by the physician based on serum testosterone levels and clinical response, not exceeding four pump actuations (81mg of testosterone) per day.  

Patients should be instructed to:

• Prime the pump before first use as directed in the product leaflet.  
• Apply the gel as a thin layer and allow it to dry completely for at least 3-5 minutes before dressing.Do not rub it in.
• Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water immediately after application.
• Cover the application site with clothing once the gel has dried to prevent transfer to others.  
• Avoid showering, swimming, or bathing for at least 2 hours after application.
• Avoid skin-to-skin contact with others, especially women and children, with the application area if not covered.If contact occurs, the area should be washed immediately with soap and water.

Serum testosterone levels should be monitored regularly to ensure appropriate dosage.

Side Effects:Common side effects may include application site reactions (e.g., irritation, redness), increased prostate-specific antigen (PSA), headache, mood disturbances, hypertension, increased hematocrit, and acne.  

Less common but potentially serious side effects include gynecomastia, sleep apnea, and venous thromboembolism.  

Patients should report any signs of excessive androgen effects (e.g., frequent or prolonged erections, irritability) or symptoms of thromboembolism (e.g., leg swelling, chest pain, shortness of breath).

Precautions:Androgel is contraindicated in men with carcinoma of the breast or known or suspected prostate cancer, and in women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.It is not indicated for use in children.

Caution should be used in patients with pre-existing conditions such as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), cardiovascular disease, sleep apnea, polycythemia, and epilepsy or migraine.Androgens may exacerbate these conditions.

Regular monitoring of the prostate gland and hematocrit is recommended during treatment.Androgel is flammable until dry, so patients should avoid fire, flame, and smoking until the gel has dried.  

Potential for testosterone transfer to others should be carefully managed through proper application and hygiene.  

Storage:Store Androgel 16.2mg at room temperature, between 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F).Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children. Store the pump dispenser upright.
