Amlacid Syrup is an Ayurvedic medicine manufactured by ACME Laboratories Ltd. in Bangladesh.

Composition: Each 5 ml of Amlacid Syrup contains liquid extracts of:

  • Phyllanthus emblica (Amalaki): 3.03 ml
  • Piper longum (Pippali): 0.12 gm
  • and other ingredients as per the Bangladesh National Formulary of Ayurvedic Medicine.

Indications: Amlacid Syrup is traditionally used to treat:

  • Hyperacidity
  • Indigestion
  • Dyspepsia
  • Anorexia (loss of appetite)
  • Flatulence (gas)
  • Anemia
  • Jaundice
  • It is also claimed to increase body immunity.

Pharmacology:

  • Phyllanthus emblica (Amalaki): Contains Phyllantidine, tannins, phyllenbic acid, gallic acid, ellagic acid, and a significant amount of vitamin C. It acts as an antacid, stomachic (promotes digestion), carminative (relieves gas), and antioxidant.
  • Piper longum (Pippali): Contains Piperine, Piplartine, Piperlonguminine, sesamine volatile oil, etc. It is used as a carminative, digestive, strengthens the muscular system, and acts as a nervine tonic. It may also be used in anemia, ascites, hemorrhoids, colic, and splenic disorders.

Dosage and Administration:

  • Adults: 2-4 teaspoonfuls (10-20 ml) 2-3 times daily after meals.
  • Children: 1-2 teaspoonfuls (5-10 ml) 2-3 times daily after meals.
  • Or as directed by a physician.

Side Effects: No significant side effects have been reported if used at the recommended dose.

Contraindications: There are no known contraindications.

Precautions: Store in a cool and dry place, protected from light. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.

Use during Pregnancy: Not specifically recommended. Consult a physician before use during pregnancy.
