Amitip 10 Tablet

Presentation: Each film-coated tablet contains Amitriptyline Hydrochloride BP equivalent to Amitriptyline 10 mg.

Indications: Amitip is a tricyclic antidepressant indicated for the treatment of:

• Depression
• Nocturnal enuresis (bedwetting) in children (as a temporary measure)
• Chronic pain, including neuropathic pain and migraine prophylaxis

Dosage and Administration: The dosage varies depending on the condition being treated and the patient's response. It is usually administered orally.

• Depression: The usual starting dose for adults is 25 mg two or three times a day. The dose may be gradually increased as needed, with a maximum dose of 150 mg per day. Elderly patients usually start on a lower dose (e.g., 10-25 mg once daily at bedtime).
• Nocturnal Enuresis: The usual dose for children (6-10 years) is 10-20 mg at bedtime, and for older children (11-16 years) is 25-50 mg at bedtime. Treatment duration is usually limited to a few months.
• Chronic Pain: The starting dose is usually lower (e.g., 10-25 mg at bedtime) and gradually increased as tolerated.

Your doctor will determine the appropriate dose and duration of treatment.

Side Effects: Common side effects are due to its anticholinergic properties and may include:

• Dry mouth
• Blurred vision
• Constipation
• Urinary retention
• Drowsiness
• Dizziness
• Increased appetite and weight gain

Less common but potentially serious side effects can occur, including changes in heart rhythm, confusion, and seizures. It's important to discuss any unusual symptoms with your doctor.

Precautions:

• Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular disease, glaucoma, urinary retention, constipation, or a history of seizures.
• May cause drowsiness; caution should be exercised when driving or operating machinery.
• Avoid abrupt discontinuation of Amitip to prevent withdrawal symptoms. Dosage should be gradually reduced under medical supervision.
• Use with caution in elderly patients who may be more susceptible to side effects.
• Use with caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding; consult your doctor.

Contraindications: Amitip is contraindicated in patients with:

• Hypersensitivity to amitriptyline or any of the excipients.
• Concomitant use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or within 14 days of discontinuing an MAOI.
• Recent myocardial infarction.
• Cardiac conduction disorders.

Drug Interactions: Amitip can interact with other medications, including:

• MAOIs (monoamine oxidase inhibitors)
• Other antidepressants (SSRIs, SNRIs)
• Anticholinergic drugs
• Central nervous system depressants (e.g., alcohol, benzodiazepines, opioids)
• Certain blood pressure medications
• Cimetidine
