Amaryl M 1

Presentation: Each tablet of Amaryl M 1 contains 1 mg of glimepiride and 500 mg of metformin hydrochloride. 

Indications: Amaryl M 1 is indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when diet and exercise plus monotherapy with either glimepiride or metformin alone do not result in adequate glycemic control.

Dosage and Administration: The usual starting dose is one tablet once daily, administered with breakfast or the first main meal. Dosage adjustments may be made based on glycemic response, usually in increments of one tablet every 1-2 weeks, up to a maximum of 8 mg of glimepiride and 2000 mg of metformin per day. The dosage should be individualized and guided by blood glucose monitoring. Tablets should be swallowed whole and not crushed or chewed.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and headache. Metformin may also cause a metallic taste. Less common but potentially serious side effects include lactic acidosis (rare but requires immediate medical attention) and liver problems. Long-term use of metformin may lead to vitamin B12 deficiency.

Precautions: Amaryl M 1 is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to glimepiride, other sulfonylureas, metformin, or any of the excipients, as well as in patients with type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe renal impairment (GFR < 30 mL/min), acute or chronic metabolic acidosis, conditions that can cause tissue hypoxia (e.g., heart or respiratory failure, recent myocardial infarction), severe liver disease, acute alcohol intoxication, and during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Caution should be exercised in patients with renal or hepatic impairment, and elderly patients. Regular monitoring of renal function is recommended. Alcohol consumption should be avoided due to the increased risk of hypoglycemia and lactic acidosis.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
