Algeum-D 

Presentation: Film-coated tablets containing Calcium Carbonate (from coral or algae source) and Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol). Available in various strengths, such as Calcium Carbonate equivalent to elemental Calcium 500 mg or 600 mg with Vitamin D3 200 IU or 400 IU. Pack sizes vary. Manufactured by Radiant Pharmaceuticals Ltd. in Bangladesh.

Ingredients: Calcium Carbonate BP (from coral or algae source) and Vitamin D3 BP (Cholecalciferol). The specific amount of elemental Calcium and Vitamin D3 will be mentioned on the product packaging.

Indications: Indicated for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis, osteomalacia, tetany, and hypoparathyroidism. Also used as a supplement in cases of inadequate calcium intake in childhood, rickets, pregnancy and lactation, and in elderly patients. Other indications may include pancreatitis and as a phosphate binder in chronic renal failure.

Dosage & Administration: One tablet once or twice daily with plenty of water or as directed by a physician. Taking it with a full stomach ensures better absorption.

Side Effects: Infrequent side effects may include flatulence, diarrhea, constipation, and upper gastrointestinal discomfort. Hypercalcemia due to prolonged use has rarely been reported.

Precautions: Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any of the components, hypercalcemia resulting from hyperparathyroidism or Vitamin D3 overdose, bone metastases, severe renal insufficiency, severe hypercalciuria, and renal calculi. Caution is advised in patients with mild hypercalciuria, mild to moderate renal impairment, and a history of renal stones. Monitor plasma and serum calcium levels in long-term use and in patients with renal impairment. May interact with tetracycline and fluoride preparations (allow 3 hours between doses), thiazide diuretics, phenytoin, barbiturates, and glucocorticoids. Certain foods like spinach, cereals, and milk products may reduce calcium uptake.

Storage: Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
