Alcet Oral Solution - (2.5mg/5ml)

Presentation:

  • Each 5 ml contains 2.5 mg of Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride BP.
  • Available in bottles of [mention typical bottle size, e.g., 60 ml or 100 ml].

Indications:

  • Relief of symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis (seasonal and perennial), such as sneezing, rhinorrhea (runny nose), nasal itching, and ocular itching and burning.
  • Relief of symptoms associated with chronic idiopathic urticaria (hives), such as itching and rash.

Dosage and Administration:

  • Adults and children 6 years and older: The usual dose is 5 mg (10 ml) once daily in the evening.
  • Children 2 to 5 years: The recommended dose is 1.25 mg (2.5 ml) once daily in the evening.
  • Children 6 months to 1 year: The recommended dose is 1.25 mg (2.5 ml) once daily.
  • Alcet Oral Solution can be taken with or without food.
  • Use the provided measuring device or a marked teaspoon to ensure accurate dosing.

Pharmacology:

  • Levocetirizine is a third-generation non-sedating antihistamine. It is the active R-enantiomer of cetirizine. Levocetirizine selectively inhibits peripheral H1 receptors, thereby reducing the release of histamine and other mediators involved in allergic reactions. It has a rapid onset of action and a long duration of effect.

Side Effects:

  • Common side effects are usually mild and transient and may include:
    • Somnolence (drowsiness)
    • Fatigue
    • Dry mouth
    • Headache
  • Less common side effects may include asthenia (weakness), abdominal pain, and pharyngitis (sore throat).

Precautions:

  • Use with caution in patients with kidney disease; dosage adjustment may be necessary.
  • Caution should be exercised when taking Alcet Oral Solution with alcohol or other central nervous system depressants as it may enhance their effects.
  • The safety and efficacy in children under 6 months of age have not been fully established.

Pregnancy & Lactation:

  • Pregnancy Category B. Animal reproduction studies have shown no evidence of fetal harm. However, there are limited data in pregnant women. Alcet Oral Solution should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed.
  • Levocetirizine is excreted in breast milk. Caution should be exercised when administering Alcet Oral Solution to a nursing woman.

Storage:

  • Store below 30°C, protected from light.
  • Keep out of the reach of children.

  • Antihistamines.
