Alatrol Syrup - (5mg/5ml)

Presentation: Each 5 ml contains 5 mg of Cetirizine Hydrochloride BP. Available in bottles of [mention typical bottle size, e.g., 60 ml].

Indications: Relief of symptoms associated with seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever). Relief of symptoms associated with perennial allergic rhinitis (year-round allergies). Treatment of the uncomplicated skin manifestations of chronic idiopathic urticaria (hives). May also be used for other allergic conditions such as allergic conjunctivitis and allergen-induced asthma.

Dosage and Administration: Adults and children 6 years and older: 10 ml (2 teaspoonfuls) once daily or 5 ml (1 teaspoonful) twice daily. Children 2 to 6 years: 5 ml (1 teaspoonful) once daily or 2.5 ml (½ teaspoonful) twice daily. Children 6 months to 2 years: 2.5 ml (½ teaspoonful) once daily. The dose in children 12-23 months of age can be increased to a maximum dose of 2.5 ml (½ teaspoonful) every 12 hours. Alatrol Syrup can be taken with or without food.

Pharmacology: Cetirizine Hydrochloride is a potent H1 receptor antagonist without significant anticholinergic and antiserotonin effects. It inhibits the histamine-mediated early phase of the allergic reaction and also reduces the migration of inflammatory cells and the release of mediators associated with thelate phase of the allergic reaction.  

Side Effects: The most common side effect is somnolence (drowsiness). Other less frequent side effects may include fatigue, dry mouth, dizziness, and headache.

Precautions: Caution should be exercised when driving a car or operating heavy machinery. Concurrent use of Cetirizine with alcohol or other CNS depressants should be avoided as it may cause additional reduction in alertness. Dosage adjustment is recommended in patients with moderate or severe renal impairment and in patients on dialysis. A lower dose may also be needed in patients with hepatic impairment.

Pregnancy & Lactation: Pregnancy Category B. Alatrol Syrup should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Cetirizine Hydrochloride has been shown to be excreted in human milk. Caution should be exercised when administering Alatrol Syrup to a nursing woman.

Storage: Store in a dry place, protected from light and heat. Keep out of the reach of children.
