Adorex 

Presentation: Adorex is a brand name that, based on available information in Bangladesh, typically contains Domperidone Maleate.

Indications: Adorex (Domperidone) is indicated for the relief of nausea and vomiting. It is also used for the symptomatic relief of upper abdominal discomfort, epigastric fullness, and regurgitation of gastric contents, which can be associated with conditions like:

• Dyspeptic symptom complex
• Acute nausea and vomiting of various origins
• Nausea and vomiting induced by certain medications or therapies
• In some cases, to accelerate barium transit in radiological examinations.

Dosage and Administration: Adorex tablets should be taken 15-30 minutes before meals.

• Adults: The usual recommended oral dose is 10-20 mg (1-2 tablets) every 6-8 hours daily. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 80 mg. For acute nausea and vomiting, a dose of 20 mg every 6-8 hours may be used, with a maximum treatment period of 12 weeks.
• Children: The dosage is usually based on body weight (0.2-0.4 mg/kg) every 6-8 hours daily. For acute nausea and vomiting, the maximum treatment period is 12 weeks. Specific formulations like suspension or drops are available for children, and their respective dosage guidelines should be followed.

The dosage and duration of treatment should be as directed by a physician.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include dry mouth, headache, and diarrhoea. Domperidone can increase prolactin levels, which may lead to galactorrhoea (milk production in non-breastfeeding individuals), breast enlargement and soreness, and reduced libido in some cases. Less common side effects may include nervousness and drowsiness.

Precautions: Adorex (Domperidone) is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to domperidone or any of the excipients, gastrointestinal haemorrhage, mechanical obstruction or perforation, and prolactin-releasing pituitary tumours (prolactinoma). It should be used with caution in children due to a potential increased risk of extrapyramidal reactions. Caution is also advised in patients with hepatic or renal impairment and in elderly patients. There may be a potential risk of cardiac arrhythmias with domperidone, particularly at higher doses or in individuals with pre-existing heart conditions.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation: The safety of domperidone in pregnancy has not been fully established, and it is generally not recommended unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks. Domperidone is excreted in breast milk and is not recommended for use during breastfeeding.

Storage: Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
