Abicon Plus 

Presentation: Abicon Plus is an oral suspension. Each 10 ml of the suspension typically contains Sodium Alginate BP 500 mg, Sodium Bicarbonate BP 267 mg, and Calcium Carbonate USP 160 mg. 

Indications: Abicon Plus is indicated for the relief of symptoms associated with gastro-oesophageal reflux, such as:

• Heartburn
• Acid indigestion
• Regurgitation of stomach contents
• Discomfort after meals

It is also used for the relief of these symptoms which may occur, for example, following meals or during pregnancy.

Dosage and Administration: Abicon Plus is for oral administration. Shake the bottle well before each use.

• Adults and children over 12 years:Take 10-20 ml after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day.  
• Children 6 to 12 years:Take 5-10 ml after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day.  
• Children under 6 years:Not recommendedunless advised by a doctor.
• Elderly: No dosage adjustment is usually required.

It is generally recommended to take Abicon Plus after meals when symptoms are more likely to occur. If antacids are also being taken, a time interval of two hours should be maintained between the administration of Abicon Plus and other medications.

Side Effects: Abicon Plus is generally well-tolerated when used as directed. However, some individuals may experience mild side effects, such as:

• Constipation
• Flatulence
• Belching

In rare cases, allergic reactions such as skin rash or itching may occur. If any unusual symptoms develop, discontinue use and consult a doctor.

Precautions: Abicon Plus should not be used by individuals with a known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients.

Caution should be exercised in patients with:

• Severe renal impairment
• Electrolyte imbalances, particularly hypercalcaemia
• Conditions where a high sodium intake may be detrimental, such as congestive heart failure or severe hypertension (due to the sodium content)

If symptoms do not improve after seven days of treatment, a doctor should be consulted.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation: Abicon Plus can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding if needed. It is generally considered safe as the active ingredients are largely non-absorbed. However, pregnant and breastfeeding women should always consult their doctor or pharmacist before taking any medication.

Storage: Store in a cool (below 25°C) and dry place, away from direct sunlight. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
