Abicon Max 200ml

Presentation:Abicon Max is an oral suspension available in a 200ml bottle.It is a combination medicine containing sodium alginate, sodium bicarbonate, and calcium carbonate.The typical strengths per 10ml suspension are Sodium Alginate USP 500mg, Sodium Bicarbonate BP 213mg, and Calcium Carbonate USP 325mg.  

Indications: Abicon Max is indicated for the treatment and relief of symptoms of gastro-oesophageal reflux, such as:

  • Acid regurgitation  
  • Heartburn  
  • Indigestion (related to reflux)  
  • Flatulence associated with gastric reflux  
  • Heartburn during pregnancy  
  • Epigastric and retrosternal distress caused by gastric reflux  

Dosage and Administration:

  • Adults and children over 12 years:The usual dose is 10-20 ml (2-4 teaspoonfuls) after meals and at bedtime, up to four times daily.  
  • Children 6 to 12 years:The usual dose is 5-10 ml (1-2 teaspoonfuls) after meals and at bedtime, up to four times daily.  
  • Children under 6 years: Use is generally not recommended.
  • Elderly:No dose modification is usually necessary.  
  • Hepatic Impairment: No dose adjustment is usually necessary.
  • Renal Insufficiency:Caution is advised for patients on a highly restricted salt diet.A time interval of 2 hours should be considered between the intake of Abicon Max and other medicinal products, especially tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones, iron salts, thyroid hormones, chloroquine, bisphosphonates, and estramustine.  

Side Effects: Common side effects may include:

  • Constipation
  • Flatulence
  • Stomach cramps
  • Belching In case of overdose, abdominal distension may occur. Allergic reactions like urticaria or bronchospasm, and anaphylactic or anaphylactoid reactions are also possible.

Precautions:

  • Abicon Max should be used with caution in patients with renal impairment and congestive cardiac failure.  
  • Care needs to be taken in treating patients with hypercalcaemia,nephrocalcinosis, and recurrent calcium-containing renal calculi.  
  • The sodium content per 20ml dose is 254.5 mg, so caution should be used in patients on a low-sodium diet.
  • Each 20ml dose contains 260 mg of calcium; caution is advised in patients with hypercalcaemia.
  • If symptoms do not improve after seven days, the clinical situation should be reviewed.
  • Use in children under 12 years should be with medical advice.
  • Not recommended for patients with phenylketonuria (due to aspartame content in some formulations).
  • Avoid use in patients with impaired renal function or hypophosphataemia.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C, away from light. Do not refrigerate or freeze. Keep out of the reach of children.
