A-Phenicol Drop is a sterile eye/ear drop containing Chloramphenicol BP 5mg per ml. It is manufactured by The ACME Laboratories Ltd.

Indications:

A-Phenicol is indicated for surface ocular infections (involving the conjunctiva and/or cornea) and ear canal infections caused by Chloramphenicol-susceptible organisms, including:

• Staphylococcus aureus  
• Streptococcus pneumoniae  
• E. coli
• H. influenzae  
• Klebsiella/Enterobacter spp.  
• Moraxella lacunata  
• Neisseria species

Dosage and Administration:

• For Eye: Instill 1 or 2 drops into the affected eye every 1 hour until the condition improves, or instill 4 times daily depending on the severity of the infection. Treatment should be continued day and night for the first 48 hours, after which the interval between applications may be increasedand continued for at least 2 days after the eye appears normal. The duration of treatment is usually around 7 days but should not exceed 3 weeks without re-evaluation by a physician.
• For Ear: Instill 2-3 drops into the affected ear 2-3 times daily.

Important Considerations:

• Wash hands before and after use.
• Avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface to prevent contamination.
• Do not wear contact lenses during treatment.
• Discard any remaining medicine after completing the course.

Side Effects:

Short-term topical use of Chloramphenicol is usually not associated with systemic adverse reactions. Local side effects that may occur include:

• Burning or stinging sensation
• Blurred vision
• Conjunctival hyperemia (redness of the eye)
• Allergic or inflammatory reactions
• Itching, redness, or skin rash

When to seek medical advice:

• If symptoms worsen or do not improve within 2 days.
• If you experience any signs of an allergic reaction.
• If you develop new or worsening eye pain, vision changes, or increased redness or irritation of the eye.

Pregnancy and Lactation:

The safety of A-Phenicol during pregnancy and lactation has not been established. Use only when considered essential by a physician.

Storage:

Store in a cool (between 2°C-8°C) and dry place, protected from light. Do not use after 30 days of first opening. Keep out of reach of children.
