Xyclon 1

Xyclon 1 contains clonazepam and is available in tablet form.

Indications

Xyclon 1 is used to treat:

• Seizures (epilepsy)

• Panic disorder

It may also be used for other conditions as determined by a healthcare professional.

Dosage and Administration

Dosage is individualized and should be determined by a physician.

• Adults:

  • Seizure disorders: Initial dose is up to 1.5 mg three times daily. Dosage may be increased as needed, with a maximum daily dose of 20 mg.

  • Panic disorder: Initial dose is 0.25 mg twice daily. The target dose for most patients is 1 mg daily.

• Children: The initial dose should be between 0.01 and 0.03 mg/kg/day, not to exceed 0.05 mg/kg/day, given in two or three divided doses.

Xyclon 1 can be taken with or without food.

Contraindications

Xyclon 1 is contraindicated in patients with:

• Hypersensitivity to benzodiazepines

• Significant liver disease

• Acute narrow-angle glaucoma

Warnings and Precautions

• Dependence and Withdrawal: Xyclon 1 has a high potential for dependence. Abrupt discontinuation can cause withdrawal symptoms, including seizures.

• CNS Depression: Xyclon 1 can cause drowsiness, dizziness, and impaired coordination. Patients should exercise caution when driving or operating machinery.

• Respiratory Depression: Xyclon 1 may cause respiratory depression, especially when used with other CNS depressants.

• Increased Seizure Risk: When used in patients with multiple seizure types, Xyclon 1 may increase the incidence of generalized tonic-clonic seizures.

• Salivation and Bronchial Secretion: In infants and young children, Xyclon 1 may increase saliva and bronchial secretions.

• Mental Health Changes: Monitor for new or worsening depression, suicidal thoughts, or unusual behavior changes.

Drug Interactions

Xyclon 1 may interact with:

• Alcohol

• Other CNS depressants (e.g., narcotics, barbiturates, other anti-anxiety medications)

• Anticonvulsants

• MAO inhibitors

• Tricyclic antidepressants

Use in Specific Populations

• Pregnancy: Xyclon 1 should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefits to the mother outweigh the risks to the fetus.

• Lactation: Breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment with Xyclon 1.

• Elderly: Elderly patients may be more sensitive to the effects of Xyclon 1.

• Hepatic Impairment: Xyclon 1 is contraindicated in patients with severe liver damage.

• Renal Impairment: Use with caution in patients with kidney disease.
