Presentation:
Each tablet contains 5 mg of Triflupromazine Hydrochloride BP.
Indications:
Tricalm 5 is indicated for:
- Management of psychotic disorders (schizophrenia, manic states)
- Treatment of severe anxiety, agitation and violent behavior
- Control of nausea and vomiting (short-term use)
- Pre-operative sedation
Dosage and Administration:
- Psychotic disorders:
- Adults: Initially 10-25 mg 2-3 times daily, maintenance 50-150 mg daily in divided doses
- Elderly: Lower initial doses recommended
- Nausea/vomiting:
- Adults: 5-15 mg every 4-6 hours as needed
- Take with food or milk to reduce stomach upset
- Do not stop abruptly without doctor's advice
Side Effects:
Common side effects may include:
- Drowsiness, dizziness
- Dry mouth, blurred vision
- Constipation, urinary retention
- Low blood pressure
- Extrapyramidal symptoms (tremors, muscle stiffness)
- Weight gain
Precautions:
- Contraindicated in patients with:
- Severe CNS depression
- Bone marrow suppression
- Liver impairment
- Use with caution in:
- Elderly patients (higher risk of side effects)
- Epilepsy patients (may lower seizure threshold)
- Cardiovascular disease (may cause hypotension)
- Parkinson's disease (may worsen symptoms)
- Pregnancy & Breastfeeding:
- Avoid unless absolutely necessary
- May cause adverse effects in newborn
- Alcohol interaction: Avoid (increases sedation)
Storage:
- Store below 30°C in a dry place
- Protect from light
- Keep out of reach of children
