Tocogel

Presentation: Soft gelatin capsules containing d-Alpha Tocopherol (natural Vitamin E) in strengths of 200 IU or 400 IU. Available in blister packs of 30 capsules. Manufactured by Aristopharma Ltd. in Bangladesh.

Ingredients: d-Alpha Tocopherol (as d-Alpha Tocopheryl Acetate) BP, either 200 IU or 400 IU per capsule (strength as specified on packaging).

Indications: Indicated for the treatment and prevention of Vitamin E deficiency. As a dietary supplement, it supports healthy hair and skin, acts as an antioxidant, and may be used in hemolytic anemia due to Vitamin E deficiency. Therapeutic uses include potential benefits in cardiovascular health, heavy metal poisoning, and as replacement therapy in nutritional deficiency states for the betterment of skin and hair.

Dosage & Administration: Dosage varies depending on the indication and age.

  • Deficiency syndrome in adults: 200 IU – 400 IU daily.
  • Betterment of Cardiovascular health: 400 IU – 800 IU daily.
  • Betterment of Skin & Hair: 200 IU – 400 IU daily (topical use also established in beautification).
  • Sickle cell anemia: 400 IU daily.
  • Thalassemia: 800 IU daily.
  • Alzheimer's disease: Up to 2000 IU daily.
  • Male Infertility: 200 IU – 400 IU daily.

  • Chronic cold in adults: 200 IU daily.
  • Children: Dosage as directed by the physician.

Capsules are usually taken orally.

Side Effects: Overdoses (above 1 gram) have been associated with minor side effects including hypertension, fatigue, diarrhea, and myopathy (muscle weakness).

Precautions: May increase the risk of thrombosis in some patients, such as those taking estrogens. Vitamin E may impair the absorption of Vitamin A and the function of Vitamin K, and it may potentiate the effect of Warfarin (a blood thinner). Vitamin E is generally considered safe in pregnancy and lactation when used at recommended doses; higher doses are not established.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and heat. Keep out of reach of children.
