Thyrox 50 

Presentation: Thyrox 50 Tablet, available in Bangladesh, contains Levothyroxine Sodium 50 mcg . It is usually presented as a small tablet with a specific color (often white or orange) and may have markings or a score line depending on the manufacturer. It is typically available in blister packs or bottles.  

Indications: Thyrox is indicated as replacement therapy for hypothyroidism , a condition where the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone. It helps restore normal thyroid hormone levels, which are essential for regulating metabolism and energy. Thyrox 50 may also be used in the management of goiter (enlarged thyroid gland) and as part of a treatment plan for certain types of thyroid cancer. It can also be used to suppress thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels.

Dosage and Administration: The dosage of Thyrox must be individualized based on the patient's age, weight, medical condition, and response to treatment. It is crucial to follow your doctor's instructions precisely.

• Thyrin 50 is usually taken once daily, preferably in the morning on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes to one hour before breakfast, to ensure optimal absorption.
• Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water. Do not crush, break, or chew the tablet.  
• Consistent timing of the dose each day is important for maintaining stable hormone levels.
• Your doctor will monitor your thyroid hormone levels with regular blood tests (TSH, T4) and adjust your dosage as needed to achieve and maintain the correct hormonal balance.
• It may take several weeks for the full effects of Thyrox to be noticeable. Do not stop taking the medication or change the dose without consulting your doctor.
• The usual starting dose for adults may range from 25-100 mcg daily, with adjustments made every 2-4 weeks based on response. Lower starting doses are often used in elderly patients and those with heart disease.  

Side Effects: Side effects of Thyrox are usually minimal when the correct dosage is taken. However, if the dose is too high, it can lead to symptoms of hyperthyroidism, such as rapid or irregular heartbeat, weight loss, increased appetite, heat intolerance, excessive sweating, nervousness, anxiety, irritability, tremors, and insomnia. Other possible side effects include headache, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, hair loss (usually temporary), and changes in menstrual periods.  

Precautions: Thyrox is contraindicated in patients with untreated hyperthyroidism, recent myocardial infarction, or known allergy to levothyroxine sodium or any of the tablet's ingredients. Caution should be exercised in patients with heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, osteoporosis, or adrenal insufficiency. Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, as some can interact with levothyroxine, affecting its absorption or the body's response. Antacids or iron supplements should be taken at least four hours apart from levothyroxine.  

Storage: Store below 25°C or 30°C (refer to the specific product packaging for the exact storage temperature), protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
