Tenaxit

Presentation: Tablets containing Flupentixol (as dihydrochloride) equivalent to 0.5 mg Flupentixol and Melitracen (as hydrochloride) equivalent to 10 mg Melitracen. Available in strips.

Indications: Treatment of anxiety, depression, apathy, psychogenic depression, depressive neuroses, masked depression, psychosomatic affections accompanied by anxiety and apathy, menopausal depressions, dysphoria, and depression in alcoholics¹and drug addicts.

Dosage & Administration: For adults, the usual dose is 2 tablets daily (1 in the morning and 1 at noon). In severe cases, the morning dose may be increased to 2 tablets. For elderly patients, the usual dose is 1 tablet in the morning, which may be increased to 1 tablet in the morning and 1 at noon in severe cases. The maintenance dose is usually 1 tablet in the morning. In cases of insomnia or severe restlessness, additional treatment with a sedative in the acute phase²may be recommended. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully.

Side Effects: Side effects are rare at recommended doses. They may include transient restlessness and insomnia. Other potential side effects may include constipation, urinary retention, weight gain, sleepiness, low blood pressure upon standing, increased heart rate, increased prolactin levels in the blood, blurred vision, dry mouth, muscle stiffness, and tremor.

Precautions: Use with caution in patients with a history of seizures, overactive thyroid, impaired kidney or liver function. Monitor closely for worsening depression or suicidal thoughts, especially in children, adolescents, and young adults. May enhance the effects of alcohol, barbiturates, and other CNS depressants. Should not be taken with MAO inhibitors. May affect blood sugar control in diabetics. Avoid in patients with recent heart attack, certain heart conditions, untreated glaucoma, or acute intoxication with alcohol, barbiturates, or opiates. Not generally recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding. May cause drowsiness and impair the ability to drive or operate machinery.

Storage: Store at a temperature not exceeding 30°C in a dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
