Presentation: Tablets containing levothyroxine sodium 25 micrograms.

Indications: Indicated as replacement or supplemental therapy in hypothyroidism of any etiology (primary, secondary, or tertiary). May also be used to suppress thyroid hormone secretion in the management of thyroid nodules, multinodular goiter, and thyroid cancer.

Dosage and Administration: Dosage is highly individualized and depends on the patient's age, weight, cardiovascular status, the specific condition being treated, and the results of thyroid function tests (TSH, T4). The usual starting dose for adults is 25-50 micrograms once daily, preferably on an empty stomach, 30-60 minutes before breakfast. Dosage is typically adjusted gradually at 4-6 week intervals based on clinical response and laboratory values. Higher starting doses may be needed in younger individuals and those with severe hypothyroidism. In children, the starting dose is usually based on body weight. Lifelong therapy is usually required for hypothyroidism. Follow physician's specific instructions.

Side Effects: Side effects are usually associated with excessive dosage and resemble symptoms of hyperthyroidism, including palpitations, tachycardia, nervousness, irritability, insomnia, tremors, weakness, increased appetite, weight loss, heat intolerance, and excessive sweating. These side effects usually resolve with dose reduction or temporary discontinuation of treatment.

Precautions: Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular disease, especially angina pectoris, coronary artery disease, and hypertension, as thyroid hormone can increase myocardial oxygen demand. In such patients, initiate therapy with a lower dose and increase gradually. Monitor thyroid function tests regularly. Drug interactions can occur with certain medications (e.g., antacids, iron supplements, calcium supplements), which may interfere with levothyroxine absorption. Separate the administration of these medications from levothyroxine by several hours. Use during pregnancy is generally considered safe, but dosage adjustments may be necessary. Consult a physician regarding use during breastfeeding.

Storage: Store below 30°C, in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
