Solone 5 

Presentation: Each tablet of Solone 5 contains 5 mg of Prednisolone BP. It is available in strips. 

Indications: Solone (prednisolone) is a corticosteroid indicated for a wide range of inflammatory and autoimmune conditions, including:

• Endocrine Disorders: Primary or secondary adrenocortical insufficiency, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, hypercalcemia associated with cancer, nonsuppurative thyroiditis.  
• Rheumatic Disorders: As adjunctive therapy for short-term administration in acute episodes or exacerbations of psoriatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, acute gouty arthritis, post-traumatic osteoarthritis, synovitis of osteoarthritis, epicondylitis.  
• Collagen Diseases: During an exacerbation or as maintenance therapy in selected cases of systemic lupus erythematosus, systemic dermatomyositis, acute rheumatic carditis.  
• Dermatologic Diseases: Pemphigus, bullous dermatitis herpetiformis, severe erythema multiforme, exfoliative dermatitis, severe psoriasis, severe seborrheic dermatitis.  
• Allergic States: Control of severe or incapacitating allergic conditions intractable to adequate trials of conventional treatment in asthma, contact dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, serum sickness, seasonal or perennial allergic rhinitis, drug hypersensitivity reactions, transfusion reactions.  
• Ophthalmic Diseases: Severe acute and chronic allergic and inflammatory processes involving the eye.  
• Respiratory Diseases: Symptomatic sarcoidosis, Loeffler's syndrome not manageable by other means, berylliosis, aspiration pneumonitis.  
• Hematologic Disorders: Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura in adults, secondary thrombocytopenia in adults, acquired hemolytic anemia.
• Neoplastic Diseases: For palliative management of leukemias and lymphomas.
• Edematous States: To induce a diuresis or remission of proteinuria in the nephrotic syndrome.
• Gastrointestinal Diseases: To tide the patient over a critical period of ulcerative colitis and regional enteritis.
• Miscellaneous: Tuberculous meningitis with subarachnoid block when used concurrently with appropriate antituberculous chemotherapy, trichinosis with neurologic or myocardial involvement.  

Dosage and Administration:   The initial dosage of Solone 5 may vary depending on the specific disease being treated. Dosage should be individualized based on the severity of the condition and the patient's response.

• Adults: The usual initial dose ranges from 5 to 60 mg per day.
• Children: Dosage should be based on the severity of the condition and the patient's weight.
• The total daily dose is usually administered orally in single or divided doses.
• After a satisfactory response is noted, the maintenance dose should be determined by gradually reducing the initial dose to the lowest effective level.
• In situations of stress, the dosage may need to be increased.
• Withdrawal of prednisolone after prolonged therapy should be gradual.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include increased appetite, weight gain, fluid retention, elevated blood pressure, mood changes, insomnia, acne, increased hair growth, thinning skin, easy bruising, impaired wound healing, increased risk of infections, osteoporosis, muscle weakness, cataracts, glaucoma, and increased blood sugar.

Precautions: Solone (prednisolone) is contraindicated in patients with systemic fungal infections and known hypersensitivity to prednisolone or any of its excipients. Use with caution in patients with heart failure, hypertension, kidney disease, liver disease, diabetes mellitus, osteoporosis, peptic ulcer disease, glaucoma, cataracts, history of tuberculosis, or psychiatric disorders. Prolonged use can lead to adrenal suppression. Live vaccines should not be administered to patients receiving immunosuppressive doses of prednisolone.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
