Sitagil 25
Presentation:
Sitagil 25 is available as tablets containing 25 mg of sitagliptin for oral administration. The tablets are usually film-coated and may have specific markings or colors as detailed on the product packaging.
Indications:
Sitagil 25 is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It can be used as monotherapy when metformin is considered inappropriate due to intolerance, or in combination with other anti-diabetic agents such as metformin, sulfonylureas, or thiazolidinediones.
Dosage and Administration:
The usual recommended dose of sitagliptin is 100 mg once daily. However, for patients with moderate renal impairment (eGFR ≥ 30 to < 45 mL/min/1.73 m²) the dose is 50 mg once daily. For patients with severe renal impairment (eGFR < 30 mL/min/1.73 m²) or with end-stage renal disease requiring hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis, the dose is 25 mg once daily. Sitagil 25 is suitable for patients requiring this lower dosage.
Sitagil 25 can be taken with or without food. It is important to take the tablet at the same time each day to maintain consistent blood sugar control. The dosage should be determined and adjusted by a healthcare professional based on individual patient needs and renal function.
Side Effects:
Common side effects associated with sitagliptin may include headache, upper respiratory tract infections (such as nasopharyngitis), and hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) when used in combination with insulin or sulfonylureas.
Less common but potentially serious side effects can include pancreatitis (severe abdominal pain), severe allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling, difficulty breathing or swallowing), and severe joint pain. If any serious side effects occur, discontinue use and seek immediate medical attention.
Precautions:
Before taking Sitagil 25, inform your doctor if you have any kidney problems, a history of pancreatitis, gallstones, or high levels of triglycerides. Caution should be exercised when using sitagliptin in elderly patients who may have reduced renal function.
Sitagliptin should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your doctor before using this medication.
Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, and herbal supplements, as drug interactions may occur.
Storage:
Store Sitagil 25 tablets below 30°C in a cool, dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep the medication out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date stated on the packaging.
