Strength: Each tablet contains Risperidone 4 mg.

Indications:

Risperdex is used to treat:

• Schizophrenia (acute and chronic) and other psychotic disorders.
• Manic episodes in Bipolar I Disorder.
• Irritability associated with autistic disorder in children and adolescents (5-16 years).
• Behavioral disturbances in patients with dementia.

Dosage and Administration:

Dosage varies depending on the condition being treated, the patient's age, and kidney/liver function. It is crucial to follow your doctor's instructions.

• Schizophrenia (Adults): Usually starts at 2 mg daily, increasing to 4 mg on the second day. The usual range is 4-6 mg daily, with a maximum of 16 mg daily.
• Schizophrenia (Elderly or with Liver/Kidney Issues): Usually starts at 0.5 mg twice daily, increasing gradually.
• Schizophrenia (Adolescents 13-17 years): Usually starts at 0.5 mg once daily, increasing to a target dose of 3 mg daily.
• Mania (Adults): Usually starts at 2 mg once daily, with a usual range of 1-6 mg daily.
• Mania (Elderly or with Liver/Kidney Issues): Usually starts at 0.5 mg twice daily, increasing gradually.
• Irritability in Autistic Disorder (Children/Adolescents): Dosage is based on weight and started low, with gradual increases.

Risperdex can be taken with or without food.

Contraindications:

• Known allergy to risperidone or any ingredients in the product.

Side Effects:

• Common: Insomnia, agitation, anxiety, headache, drowsiness, impaired concentration, fatigue, blurred vision, constipation, nausea, vomiting, increased appetite, weight gain.
• Less Common: Dizziness, restlessness, extrapyramidal symptoms (muscle stiffness, tremors, slow movements), increased saliva, abdominal pain, rapid heartbeat, high blood pressure, swelling, rash.
• Rare: Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (NMS), tardive dyskinesia (uncontrolled movements), high blood sugar, seizures, allergic reactions.

Precautions:

• Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular disease, diabetes, seizures, kidney or liver problems.
• May increase the risk of stroke in elderly patients with dementia.
• Can cause tardive dyskinesia (uncontrolled movements), which may be permanent.
• May affect blood sugar levels.
• Can cause weight gain.
• May cause dizziness and drowsiness, affecting the ability to drive or operate machinery.
• Avoid alcohol.
• Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking.

Use in Pregnancy & Lactation:

• Pregnancy: Use only if the potential benefit outweighs the risk to the fetus.
• Lactation: Risperidone can pass into breast milk. Breastfeeding is not recommended.

Storage:

• Store below 30°C.
• Protect from light and moisture.
• Keep out of reach of children.
