Rabprazo

Presentation: Rabprazo is available as enteric-coated tablets containing Rabeprazole Sodium. The strengths commonly available are 10 mg and 20 mg.

Indications: Rabprazo (Rabeprazole) is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) indicated for the treatment of:

  • Duodenal ulcer
  • Gastric ulcer
  • Erosive or ulcerative gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
  • Maintenance treatment of GERD
  • Symptomatic treatment of moderate to severe GERD
  • Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
  • Eradication of Helicobacter pylori in combination with appropriate antibiotics in peptic ulcer disease.

Dosage and Administration: Rabprazo tablets should be swallowed whole, preferably in the morning before food. Do not chew or crush the tablets. The dosage and duration of treatment are determined by the physician based on the specific condition and individual patient response.

  • Duodenal ulcer: The usual adult dose is 20 mg once daily for 2 to 4 weeks.
  • Gastric ulcer: The usual adult dose is 20 mg once daily for 4 to 8 weeks.
  • GERD: The usual adult dose is 20 mg once daily for 4 to 8 weeks. For maintenance therapy, 10 mg or 20 mg once daily may be used. For symptomatic GERD without oesophagitis, the usual adult dose is 10 mg once daily.
  • H. pylori eradication: Rabeprazole 20 mg is typically administered twice daily in combination with specific antibiotics for 7 days.
  • Zollinger-Ellison syndrome: The starting adult dose is usually 60 mg once daily, adjusted as needed up to 120 mg daily.

Side Effects: Common side effects of Rabprazo (Rabeprazole) may include:

  • Headache
  • Diarrhoea
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal pain
  • Flatulence
  • Constipation
  • Dry mouth

Less common side effects may include dizziness, insomnia, asthenia, and skin rash. Long-term use may potentially lead to hypomagnesaemia and an increased risk of bone fractures.

Precautions: Rabprazo (Rabeprazole) is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to rabeprazole or any other proton pump inhibitors.

Caution should be exercised in patients with severe hepatic impairment. Before starting treatment, the possibility of gastric malignancy should be excluded. Rabeprazole may interact with certain drugs, such as ketoconazole, digoxin, and warfarin. Inform your doctor about all medications you are currently taking.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation: Rabprazo should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk to the foetus. It is not known whether rabeprazole is excreted in human milk. Caution should be exercised when administering Rabprazo to breastfeeding women. Consult a healthcare professional for advice.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
