Indications

Povital is indicated for use when a deficiency of the relevant vitamins exists. It is used to treat various conditions, including polyneuropathy of any origin (such as diabetic, alcoholic, or toxic neuropathies), as well as a range of nerve-related issues like neuritis, neuralgia, lumbago, sciatica, and cervical, shoulder-arm, and intercostal syndromes. It is also used as supportive treatment for herpes zoster, trigeminal neuralgia, and facial paresis.

Composition

• Each film-coated tablet contains:
  • Vitamin B1 (Thiamine Mononitrate): 100 mg
  • Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine Hydrochloride): 200 mg
  • Vitamin B12 (Cyanocobalamin): 200 microgram
• Each 3 ml ampoule contains:
  • Vitamin B1 (Thiamine Hydrochloride): 100 mg
  • Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine Hydrochloride): 100 mg
  • Vitamin B12 (Cyanocobalamin): 1000 mcg

Pharmacology

Vitamin B1 helps convert food into energy, supports healthy nerves, and strengthens the heart. Vitamin B6 is essential for forming red blood cells, creating proteins, and manufacturing neurotransmitters like serotonin. It also helps prevent cardiovascular diseases and can ease depression and insomnia. Vitamin B12 is vital for cell replication and red blood cell production, helping to prevent anemia. It also helps reduce nerve pain, numbness, and tingling, and lowers the risk of heart disease. The vitamins are well-absorbed orally and are widely distributed throughout the body. Excess amounts are excreted in the urine.

Dosage & Administration

• Tablet: Take 1-3 tablets per day, or as directed by a physician.
• Injection:
  • In severe cases: One injection daily until acute symptoms improve, or as advised by a physician.
  • In mild cases: One injection 2-3 times per week. The ampoules are preferably administered intramuscularly.
• Use in children: There is no specific information available on the use of this medication in children.

No drug interactions have been reported.

Contraindications

Povital is contraindicated in patients undergoing levodopa therapy and in those with a known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients.

Side Effects

The medication is generally well-tolerated, but allergic reactions may occur in a few cases.

Pregnancy & Lactation

While the oral tablet form is recommended, the injectable form is not advised during pregnancy and lactation due to the presence of benzyl alcohol.

Precautions & Warnings

Cyanocobalamin should not be administered to patients with subacute degeneration of the spinal cord. It is also not a suitable form of Vitamin B12 for treating optic neuropathies linked to high plasma concentrations of cyanocobalamin.

Overdose Effects

No overdose symptoms are expected when the medication is taken at the recommended dosage. In the event of an overdose, treatment should be symptomatic and supportive.
