Presentation: Each tablet contains Perampanel 2 mg.

Indications: Peranel is an antiepileptic medication used as adjunctive therapy for the treatment of:

• Partial-onset seizures with or without secondarily generalized seizures in patients with epilepsy aged 4 years and older. 
• Primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures in patients with epilepsy 12 years of age and older.

Dosage and Administration: The starting dose is 2 mg once daily at bedtime. The dose may be increased based on clinical response and tolerability by increments of 2 mg once daily no more frequently than at weekly intervals. The recommended maintenance dose is usually between 8 mg to 12 mg once daily at bedtime.

Peranel can be taken with or without food.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include:

• Dizziness
• Sleepiness
• Fatigue
• Irritability
• Falls
• Nausea
• Weight gain
• Vertigo
• Impaired coordination
• Altered walking
• Balance disorder

Less common but potentially serious side effects can occur. It is important to report any unusual symptoms to your doctor immediately, especially changes in mood, depression, or suicidal thoughts.

Precautions:

• Use with caution in patients with mild to moderate liver problems. It is not recommended for use in patients with serious liver problems or moderate to serious kidney problems.
• Peranel may cause dizziness and sleepiness, so avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how it affects you.
• Avoid alcohol consumption while taking Peranel as it might make you dizzier and can also worsen feelings of anger, confusion, or sadness.
• Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive, or breastfeeding. Women of child-bearing potential should use reliable contraception during treatment and for one month after stopping.
• Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, as Peranel can interact with certain drugs, including other antiepileptic medications and hormonal contraceptives.

Contraindications: Peranel is contraindicated in patients with:

• Serious liver problems.
• Moderate or serious kidney problems.
• Known hypersensitivity to perampanel.
• History of severe skin rash or skin peeling, blistering, or mouth sores after taking perampanel.
