Penticin is a medication containing a combination of Flupentixol and Melitracen.

Flupentixol is a neuroleptic drug with anxiolytic and antidepressant properties when given in small doses.

Melitracen is a bipolar thymoleptic with activating properties in low doses.

Indications:

Penticin is used to treat:

  • Anxiety 
  • Depression 
  • Apathy 
  • Psychogenic depression 
  • Depressive neuroses 
  • Masked depression 
  • Psychosomatic affections accompanied by anxiety and apathy 
  • Menopausal depressions 
  • Dysphoria and depression in alcoholicsand drug addicts  

Dosage and Administration:  

  • Adults:Usually2 tablets orally daily, in the morning and at noon. In severe cases, the morning dose may be increased to 2 tablets. 
  • Elderly patients:1 tablet in the morning. 
  • Maintenance dose:Usually 1 tablet orally in the morning.Additional sedative treatment may be recommended for insomnia or severe restlessness in the acute phase.

Contraindications:

  • Immediate recovery phase after myocardial infarction. 
  • Defects in bundle-branch conduction. 
  • Untreated narrow-angle glaucoma. 
  • Acute alcohol, barbiturate and opiate intoxications. 
  • Patients who have received an MAO-inhibitor within two weeks.
  • Not recommended for excitable or overactive patients.

Side Effects:

Side effects are rare at recommended doses. They may include transient restlessness and insomnia.

Pregnancy and Lactation:

Penticin should preferably not be given during pregnancy and lactation.
