Osartil Plus 50

Presentation: Each tablet contains a combination of 50 mg of Losartan Potassium BP and 12.5 mg of Hydrochlorothiazide BP. Available in strips of [mention typical strip size, e.g., 10 tablets].

Indications: Osartil Plus 50 is indicated for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) in patients who are not adequately controlled on losartan monotherapy or hydrochlorothiazide monotherapy. It may also be used to reduce the risk of stroke in patients with hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy.

Dosage and Administration: The usual starting dose is one tablet of Osartil Plus 50 (50 mg/12.5 mg) once daily. For patients who do not respond adequately to this dose, the dosage may be increased to one tablet of Osartil Plus 100/12.5 (100 mg losartan/12.5 mg hydrochlorothiazide) once daily or one tablet of Osartil Plus 100/25 (100 mg losartan/25 mg hydrochlorothiazide) once daily. The maximum dose is one tablet of Osartil Plus 100/25 once daily.

Osartil Plus 50 tablets can be taken with or without food. It is recommended to take it at the same time each day. Dosage adjustments may be necessary for patients with kidney impairment (creatinine clearance 30-60 mL/min), with a lower starting dose of losartan recommended. Thiazide diuretics are not preferred in patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance < 30 mL/min). No initial dosage adjustment is usually necessary for elderly patients.

Side Effects: Side effects are usually mild and transient. Common side effects may include dizziness, lightheadedness, fatigue, headache, and cough. Other possible side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and electrolyte imbalances (such as low potassium). Patients should report any persistent or bothersome side effects to their doctor.

Precautions: Inform your doctor if you have any pre-existing medical conditions, such as kidney or liver disease, heart failure, gout, diabetes, or a history of angioedema. Osartil Plus 50 is contraindicated during pregnancy, especially during the second and third trimesters, due to the risk of fetal harm. It should be used with caution during the first trimester and in breastfeeding women. Caution is advised when using Osartil Plus 50 with other medications that can affect blood pressure or electrolyte levels, such as other antihypertensive agents, diuretics, potassium supplements, and NSAIDs.

Storage: Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
