Neuropen 300

Presentation: Each capsule contains 300 mg of Gabapentin. It is available in strips of [mention typical strip size, e.g., 10 capsules].  

Indications: Neuropen (Gabapentin) is indicated for the treatment of:

• Neuropathic pain: Management of postherpetic neuralgia (nerve pain following shingles) in adults.
• Epilepsy: As adjunctive therapy in adults and children 3 years and older with partial-onset seizures, with or without secondary generalization.  

Dosage and Administration: Dosage is highly individualized and determined by the physician based on the condition, age, and response.  

• Neuropathic Pain: The starting dose is typically 300 mg once daily on Day 1, 300 mg twice daily on Day 2, and 300 mg three times daily on Day 3. The dose can then be titrated up as needed for pain relief, to a maximum of 3600 mg per day in divided doses.
• Epilepsy:
  • Adults and Children over 12 years: The starting dose is typically 300 mg three times a day. The dose can be increased as needed to a maximum of 3600 mg per day in divided doses.
  • Children 3 to 12 years: The starting dose ranges from 10 to 15 mg/kg/day in divided doses (three times a day). The maintenance dose is reached by upward titration over approximately 3 days and is usually 25 to 35 mg/kg/day in divided doses. 
• Neuropen capsules should be swallowed whole with water and can be taken with or without food.
• If the dose needs to be reduced or discontinued, it should be done gradually over a minimum of 1 week to minimize potential withdrawal symptoms.  

Side Effects: Common side effects may include:

• Drowsiness
• Dizziness
• Ataxia (lack of coordination)
• Fatigue
• Nystagmus (involuntary eye movements)
• Tremor
• Diplopia (double vision)
• Peripheral edema (swelling of the extremities)
• Weight gain  

Less common side effects can include memory impairment, confusion, and mood changes.

Precautions:

• Inform your doctor about any history of kidney disease, as the dosage may need to be adjusted.
• Gabapentin may cause drowsiness and dizziness; avoid activities requiring mental alertness until the effects are known.
• Avoid abrupt discontinuation of the medication, as it may increase the frequency of seizures or cause withdrawal symptoms.
• Inform your doctor if you experience any new or worsening depression, suicidal thoughts, or unusual changes in mood or behavior.
• The safety of Neuropen during pregnancy has not been fully established. It should only be used if the potential benefit outweighs the risk to the fetus. Consult your doctor before use.
• Gabapentin passes into breast milk. Breastfeeding is generally not recommended while taking Neuropen. 

Storage: Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
