Maxical 500
Presentation: Each film-coated tablet contains Calcium Carbonate BP 1250 mg equivalent to Elemental Calcium 500 mg.
Indications: Maxical 500 is indicated for the treatment and prevention of calcium deficiency in conditions such as:
- Osteoporosis
- Osteomalacia and rickets
- Tetany
- Hypoparathyroidism
- As a supplement during periods of increased calcium requirements such as pregnancy, lactation, and rapid growth in children.
- May also be used as a phosphate binder in chronic renal failure under medical supervision.
- For symptomatic relief of hyperacidity associated with peptic ulcer, gastritis, peptic esophagitis, and heartburn.
Dosage and Administration:
- For calcium supplementation: The usual adult dosage is 1 to 2 tablets daily, or as directed by a physician. It is generally recommended to take the tablets with or after meals to enhance absorption. Swallow the tablets whole with plenty of water.
- As an antacid: The dosage varies depending on the severity of symptoms and should be as directed by a physician. Typically, 1-2 tablets may be chewed or swallowed as needed.
- For phosphate binding in chronic renal failure: Dosage is individualized and determined by a physician based on serum phosphate levels.
Side Effects: Common side effects may include:
- Gastrointestinal disturbances such as constipation, flatulence, nausea, and abdominal pain.
- Rarely, hypercalcemia (high levels of calcium in the blood) may occur, especially with high doses or in individuals with impaired kidney function.
Precautions:
- Maxical 500 is contraindicated in patients with hypercalcaemia, hypercalciuria, and hyperparathyroidism.
- Use with caution in patients with renal impairment, cardiac disease, and those with a history of kidney stones.
- May interact with several medications, including tetracycline and quinolone antibiotics, bisphosphonates, levothyroxine, thiazide diuretics, cardiac glycosides, and iron supplements. Separate administration times as advised by your doctor.
Storage: Store in a cool and dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Store below 30°C.
