Luradox 20

Presentation: Each tablet contains 20 mg of Lurasidone Hydrochloride. 

Indications: Luradox (Lurasidone) is an atypical antipsychotic medication indicated for the treatment of:  

• Schizophrenia in adults and adolescents (13 to 17 years).
• Depressive episodes associated with bipolar I disorder (bipolar depression) in adults and children and adolescents (10 to 17 years), as monotherapy or as adjunctive therapy with lithium or valproate.  

Dosage and Administration:

• Dosage must be individualized by the treating physician.
• Luradox tablets should be taken orally once daily with food (at least 350 calories). Taking it without food significantly reduces its absorption.  
• Schizophrenia:
  • Adults: The usual starting dose is 40 mg once daily. The dose may be adjusted based on individual response and tolerability, ranging from 20 mg to 80 mg once daily.
  • Adolescents (13 to 17 years): The starting dose is 20 mg once daily. The dose may be increased to 40 mg or 80 mg once daily based on clinical response and tolerability.
• Bipolar Depression:
  • Adults: The usual starting dose is 20 mg once daily. The dose may be increased based on individual response and tolerability, ranging from 20 mg to 60 mg once daily. 
  • Children and Adolescents (10 to 17 years): The starting dose is 20 mg once daily. The dose may be increased to 40 mg or 60 mg once daily based on clinical response and tolerability. 

Side Effects: Common side effects may include:

• Akathisia (restlessness, feeling the need to move)
• Extrapyramidal symptoms (muscle stiffness, slow movements, tremors)
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Somnolence (drowsiness)
• Insomnia
• Anxiety
• Increased creatine phosphokinase (CPK) levels
• Weight gain  

Less common but potentially serious side effects may include:

• Tardive dyskinesia (involuntary movements)
• Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS)
• Metabolic changes (increased blood sugar, cholesterol, triglycerides)
• Orthostatic hypotension (low blood pressure upon standing)
• Seizures
• Suicidal thoughts or behaviors (especially in young adults with depression)

Precautions:

• Inform your doctor about any pre-existing medical conditions, including heart problems, seizures, diabetes, high cholesterol, liver or kidney disease.
• Tell your doctor about all other medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements, as there can be interactions. 
• Lurasidone may cause drowsiness and dizziness, so caution should be exercised while driving or operating machinery until you know how the medication affects you.
• Avoid alcohol consumption while taking Luradox.
• Use during pregnancy should only occur if the potential benefit outweighs the risk to the fetus. Neonates exposed to antipsychotic drugs during the third trimester are at risk for extrapyramidal and/or withdrawal symptoms. Consult your doctor before use. 
• It is not known if Lurasidone passes into breast milk. Breastfeeding is not recommended while taking Luradox.

Storage: Store below 30°C (86°F), protected from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
