Lexotanil 3

Presentation: Tablets containing Bromazepam BP 3 mg.

Indications: Lexotanil (Bromazepam) is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of anxiety, tension, agitation, and sleep disturbances associated with anxiety disorders. It is a benzodiazepine that exerts anxiolytic, sedative, muscle relaxant, and to a lesser extent, anticonvulsant effects. It is used to alleviate excessive worry, nervousness, restlessness, irritability, and difficulty sleeping when these symptoms are related to an underlying anxiety condition.  

Dosage and Administration: The dosage of Lexotanil should be individualized by a registered medical practitioner based on the severity of the symptoms and the patient's response. For adults, the usual dosage range for anxiety is between 6 mg and 12 mg daily, administered in divided doses (e.g., 2 mg or 3 mg two or three times a day). Some patients may require a higher dosage, up to 30 mg daily in divided doses, particularly in severe cases. Elderly or debilitated patients should typically start on a lower dose to minimize potential side effects. The tablets are for oral administration and can be taken with or without food. Treatment duration should be as short as possible, and abrupt cessation should be avoided to prevent withdrawal phenomena.  

Side Effects: Common side effects associated with Bromazepam may include drowsiness, fatigue, muscle weakness, ataxia (impaired coordination), and dizziness. Other potential side effects can include confusion, memory impairment, slurred speech, and blurred vision. Elderly patients are often more susceptible to these adverse effects. In some instances, paradoxical reactions such as increased anxiety or agitation may occur. Patients should consult their healthcare provider if they experience persistent or troublesome side effects.

Precautions: Lexotanil is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to benzodiazepines, acute narrow-angle glaucoma, and myasthenia gravis. It should be used with caution in patients with respiratory depression, severe hepatic impairment, sleep apnea syndrome, and a history of drug or alcohol dependence. Bromazepam may impair the ability to drive or operate machinery, and concurrent use with alcohol or other central nervous system depressants should be avoided due to additive sedative effects. Prolonged use may lead to psychological and physical dependence. The use of Lexotanil during pregnancy and breastfeeding should be carefully considered, and it should only be used if the potential benefits outweigh the risks to the fetus or infant.

Storage: Store Lexotanil 3 mg tablets in a cool and dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep this medicine out of the reach of children. Always check the expiry date on the packaging before use.
