Levopa 275 Tablet

Presentation: Each tablet contains Levodopa BP 250 mg and Carbidopa BP 25 mg. 

Indications: Levopa is indicated for the treatment of the symptoms of Parkinson's disease. It helps to relieve many of the symptoms of Parkinson's disease, especially rigidity, tremor, slowness of movement, and balance problems.

Dosage and Administration: The optimal daily dosage of Levopa must be determined by careful titration for each individual patient. The total daily dosage should be administered in divided doses.

• Initial Dosage: The usual starting dose is one tablet two or three times a day.
• Maintenance Dosage: Dosage may be increased gradually as needed. Most patients will require a total daily dose of 4 to 8 tablets of Levopa 250/25 given in divided doses.

It is recommended to take Levopa on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before or one hour after meals, as food may impair the absorption of levodopa. However, to reduce nausea, it may be taken with food.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include:

• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Loss of appetite
• Dizziness
• Lightheadedness
• Drowsiness
• Headache
• Involuntary movements (dyskinesias)

Less common but potentially serious side effects can occur. It's important to discuss any unusual symptoms with your doctor.

Precautions:

• Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular disease, pulmonary disease, bronchial asthma, renal, hepatic, or endocrine disorders.
• May cause orthostatic hypotension (a sudden fall in blood pressure upon standing).
• Monitor for changes in mental status, including depression and suicidal thoughts.
• May cause drowsiness; caution should be exercised when driving or operating machinery.
• Avoid abrupt withdrawal of the medication.
• Use with caution in patients with a history of melanoma or suspicious undiagnosed skin lesions.
• The safety of Levopa during pregnancy has not been fully established and it should be used only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. It is not known whether carbidopa or levodopa is excreted in human milk.

Contraindications: Levopa is contraindicated in patients with:

• Hypersensitivity to levodopa or carbidopa.
• Narrow-angle glaucoma.
• Malignant melanoma or a history of melanoma.
• Concomitant use of nonselective monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). These inhibitors must be discontinued at least two weeks prior to initiating therapy with Levopa. 

Drug Interactions: Levopa can interact with other medications, including:

• Certain antihypertensive drugs
• Iron supplements
• Metoclopramide
• Phenytoin
• Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) - selective MAO-B inhibitors (e.g., selegiline, rasagiline) may be used with caution, but the dosage of levodopa may need to be adjusted.

Inform your doctor about all the medications you are currently taking.

Storage: Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
