Leroid 25 

Presentation: Leroid 25 Tablet, manufactured by Drug International Ltd. in Bangladesh, contains Levothyroxine Sodium 25 mcg as the active ingredient. It is presented as a tablet for oral administration and is usually available in strips.

Indications: Leroid is indicated as replacement therapy in hypothyroidism of any cause. It is also used for suppression of Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) levels in the presence of goiters, nodules, after thyroid cancer treatment, and to suppress the goitrogenic effects of drugs like Lithium. It can also be used as a diagnostic aid in suppression tests.

Dosage and Administration: The initial starting dose for adults is typically 25-50 mcg daily, with gradual increases every 6-8 weeks as needed, adjusted based on clinical response and TSH levels. Dosage for severe hypothyroidism starts lower (12.5-25 mcg daily) with slower increases. Dosage in children varies by age and weight. Leroid should be taken orally once daily, preferably on an empty stomach, before breakfast.

Side Effects: Adverse reactions are mainly those of hyperthyroidism due to overdose and may include fatigue, increased appetite, weight loss, heat intolerance, fever, excessive sweating, headache, hyperactivity, nervousness, anxiety, irritability, insomnia, tremors, muscle weakness, palpitations, tachycardia, arrhythmias, increased pulse and blood pressure, dyspnea, diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, hair loss, and flushing.

Precautions: A high initial dose or rapid increase may worsen angina, arrhythmias, or cause myocardial infarction, especially in older patients. Leroid is Pregnancy Category A. Caution should be exercised in nursing women as thyroid hormones are minimally excreted in breast milk. Overdose symptoms are those of hyperthyroidism.

Storage: Store Leroid tablets as directed on the packaging, usually in a cool, dry place away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
