Lamicet Tablet - (50mg)

Presentation: Each tablet contains Lamotrigine USP 50 mg.

Indications: Lamicet is an antiepileptic drug indicated for:  

• Epilepsy:
  • Adjunctive therapy in patients aged 2 years and older for partial-onset seizures, primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures, and generalized seizures of Lennox-Gastaut syndrome.  
  • Monotherapy in patients aged 16 years and older with partial-onset seizures or primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures.
• Bipolar Disorder: In patients aged 18 years and older.  

Dosage and Administration: The dosage varies depending on the indication, age, and concomitant medications. It is usually administered orally once or twice daily. Your doctor will determine the appropriate starting dose and titration schedule. Some general guidelines: 

• Monotherapy for Epilepsy (Adults and Children over 16 years): Initial dose is 25 mg once daily for 2 weeks, then 50 mg once daily for 2 weeks, followed by gradual increases. The usual maintenance dose is 225-375 mg/day in 1-2 divided doses.  
• Adjunctive Therapy for Epilepsy: Dosage depends on whether it is combined with Valproate or enzyme-inducing drugs.  
• Bipolar Disorder: Dosage titration is specific and gradual, aiming for a maintenance dose of typically 200 mg once daily.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include:

• Skin rash
• Headache  
• Nausea  
• Vomiting
• Dizziness  
• Diplopia (double vision)  
• Ataxia (lack of coordination)  
• Somnolence (drowsiness)  
• Insomnia (difficulty sleeping)  

A rash may be a sign of a serious side effect and requires immediate medical attention.  

Precautions:

• Discontinue at the first sign of rash.
• Use with caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment; dose adjustment may be needed.
• Monitor for suicidal thoughts or behaviors.
• Avoid abrupt discontinuation of the medication.
• Use with caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding; consult your doctor.

Contraindications: Lamicet is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to lamotrigine or any of the excipients.  

Drug Interactions: Lamicet can interact with other medications, including:

• Valproate (increases lamotrigine concentrations)  
• Enzyme-inducing drugs (e.g., Carbamazepine, Phenytoin, Phenobarbital, Primidone, Rifampicin) which decrease lamotrigine concentrations.  
• Oral contraceptives (may decrease lamotrigine concentrations).  

Inform your doctor about all the medications you are currently taking.

Storage: Store below 25°C, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
