Kytido 50 

Presentation: Kytido 50 is available as film-coated tablets, each containing 50 mg of itopride hydrochloride. 

Indications: Kytido is indicated for the treatment of gastrointestinal symptoms associated with chronic gastritis, such as:

• Feeling of an enlarged abdomen
• Upper abdominal pain
• Anorexia (loss of appetite)
• Heartburn
• Nausea
• Vomiting

Dosage and Administration: The usual adult dose for oral use is 50 mg of itopride hydrochloride administered three times daily, before meals. The dose may be reduced according to the patient's age and symptoms, as determined by a physician.

• Itopride hydrochloride should be taken before meals.
• Use in the elderly: Since elderly patients often have reduced physiological function, they should be closely monitored for adverse reactions. If adverse reactions occur, appropriate measures such as dose reduction or discontinuation of the drug should be considered.
• Use in pediatric population: The safety and efficacy of itopride hydrochloride in children and adolescents under 18 years of age have not been established, and therefore, its use is not recommended in this population.

Side Effects: The following side effects have been reported with the use of itopride hydrochloride:

• Rash
• Giddiness
• Exhaustion
• Back pain
• Chest pain
• Increased salivation
• Constipation
• Headache
• Sleeping disorders
• Dizziness
• Galactorrhea (abnormal milk production)
• Gynecomastia (breast enlargement in males)
• Leukopenia (low white blood cell count)
• Thrombocytopenia (low platelet count)
• Increased prolactin levels
• Tremor
• Abdominal pain
• Jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes) with increased liver enzyme levels (AST, ALT, g-GTP)

Precautions: Kytido should be used with caution as it enhances the action of acetylcholine. It should not be used continuously for an extended period if no improvement in gastrointestinal symptoms is observed.

Kytido is contraindicated in patients with:

• Hypersensitivity to itopride hydrochloride or any of the excipients in the formulation.
• Conditions where increased gastrointestinal motility could be harmful, such as gastrointestinal hemorrhage, mechanical obstruction, or perforation.  

Caution should be exercised when Kytido is co-administered with anticholinergic drugs as they may reduce the activity of itopride.

The safety of itopride hydrochloride in pregnant women has not been verified, and its use during pregnancy should only be considered if the expected therapeutic benefit outweighs any potential risk. It is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women due to a lack of data on its excretion in breast milk.

Shock and anaphylactoid reactions may occur, requiring close observation and immediate discontinuation of the drug if symptoms such as hypotension, dyspnea, larynx edema, urticaria, pallor, and diaphoresis occur.

Hepatic function disorder and jaundice with increased liver enzyme levels may occur, necessitating close observation, discontinuation of the drug, and appropriate therapeutic measures if abnormalities arise.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a cool and dry place, away from light. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
