I-Pill Emergency Contraceptive Pill

Presentation: I-Pill is typically available as a single tablet containing 1.5 mg of levonorgestrel. The tablets are usually small, white, and round, packaged in a single blister pack within a carton.

Indications: I-Pill is an emergency contraceptive pill used to prevent pregnancy after unprotected intercourse or a known or suspected contraceptive failure. It should be taken as soon as possible, preferably within 12 hours, and no later than 72 hours (3 days) after the unprotected sex. It is not intended for regular use as a method of contraception.

Dosage and Administration: One tablet of I-Pill should be taken orally as a single dose. It can be taken at any time during the menstrual cycle. If vomiting occurs within 3 hours of taking the tablet, another tablet should be taken immediately. After using emergency contraception, it is recommended to use a local barrier method of contraception (such as a condom) until the next menstrual period. I-Pill is most effective when taken as soon as possible after unprotected intercourse. Effectiveness decreases with time:

• If taken within 24 hours: Effectiveness is around 95%.
• If taken within 25-48 hours: Effectiveness is around 85%.
• If taken within 49-72 hours: Effectiveness drops to 58% or less.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain or cramps, fatigue, headache, dizziness, and breast tenderness. Changes in menstrual bleeding patterns, such as spotting or earlier or later periods, may also occur. Some women may experience heavier or lighter bleeding than usual.

Precautions: I-Pill should not be used as a regular method of contraception. It is more effective when taken as soon as possible after unprotected intercourse. It does not protect against sexually transmitted infections. Its effectiveness may be reduced if taken with certain other medications. If a period does not occur at the expected time after using I-Pill, a pregnancy test should be performed. I-Pill is not recommended for use in women under 16 or over 45 years of age without consulting a doctor.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
