Hamdard ORS 

Presentation: Powder for oral solution, available in sachets (typically 10.25 gm).

Ingredients: Each sachet typically contains Sodium Chloride BP, Potassium Chloride BP, Trisodium Citrate Dihydrate BP, and Glucose Anhydrous BP. The specific amounts may vary slightly.

Indications: Helps in the replacement of fluid and electrolyte loss due to acute diarrhea, vomiting, dehydration, and other conditions of fluid loss or lack of intake in patients of all age groups.

Dosage & Administration: Disperse the full contents of the sachet in 500 ml (1/2 liter) of pure drinking water. Do not mix with hot water or heat the prepared solution.

• Children less than 2 years: 50-100 ml (10-20 teaspoonful) after each loose stool or vomiting.
• Children 2 to 10 years: 100-200 ml (1/2 to 1 glass) after each loose stool or vomiting.
• Adults and children above 10 years: 200-400 ml (1 to 2 glass) after each loose stool or vomiting.

Discard any unused prepared solution after 12 hours. Continue breastfeeding for children and normal food intake for adults during therapy.

Side Effects: Generally well-tolerated when used as directed. Wrong or excessive use may lead to side effects like vomiting, irritability, restlessness, nausea, seizures, or swelling.

Precautions: Depressed renal function, severe continuing diarrhea, or other critical fluid losses may need supplementation with parenteral fluids along with oral saline. Consult a doctor if dehydration symptoms worsen or persist. Use with caution in individuals with diabetes mellitus due to the glucose content.

Storage: Do not store above 30°C. Keep away from light and wet places. Keep out of reach of children.
