Glucium-TS Overview
Therapeutic Class: Cartilage formation stimulant
Indications
- Primary: Management of osteoarthritis (knee, hip, spine, hand).
- Secondary: Support for rheumatoid arthritis, sports injuries, tendon/ligament strains, skin issues (e.g., psoriasis), vascular conditions, kidney stones, and inflammatory bowel disease.
Pharmacology
- Glucosamine: Biosynthetic building block for cartilage proteoglycans; stimulates chondrocytes to repair joint cartilage and connective tissue.
- Chondroitin: Provides proteoglycan substrates and blocks MMP enzymes that degrade cartilage.
- Synergistic Effect: Together, they relieve joint pain comparably to NSAIDs, protect cartilage structure, and support soft tissue repair.
Dosage & Administration
Take strictly as directed by a registered physician.
- 750 mg / 600 mg Tablet: 1 tablet twice daily (or as directed).
- 250 mg / 200 mg Tablet: 1–2 tablets, 3 times daily (can be tapered after 60 days).
- Weight < 54 kg: 1000 mg Glucosamine / 800 mg Chondroitin daily
- Weight 54–91 kg: 1500 mg Glucosamine / 1200 mg Chondroitin daily
- Weight > 91 kg: 2000 mg Glucosamine / 1600 mg Chondroitin daily
Important Safety Information
- Contraindications: Known allergy to shellfish, sulfur, or any formulation ingredient.
- Drug Interactions: Chondroitin may enhance the blood-thinning effects of anticoagulants (e.g., Warfarin, Heparin).
- Precautions:
- Diabetes: Monitor blood glucose levels regularly.
- Liver/Kidney Disease: Use under strict medical supervision in severe cases.
- Children: Not recommended.
- Pregnancy & Lactation: Avoid use unless explicitly advised by a physician due to insufficient safety data.
- Side Effects: Rare and mild (e.g., transient flatulence).
