Glitin M 500

Presentation: Each tablet contains linagliptin 2.5 mg and metformin hydrochloride 500 mg.

Indications: Glitin M 500 is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus when treatment with both linagliptin and metformin is appropriate.  

Dosage and Administration: The dosage should be individualized based on the patient's current regimen, effectiveness, and tolerability, not exceeding the maximum recommended daily dose. It is usually administered orally twice daily with meals to reduce the gastrointestinal side effects associated with metformin. The recommended starting dose in patients not currently treated with metformin is one tablet twice daily. In patients already treated with metformin, the starting dose is one tablet of Glitin M 500 twice daily, providing the same daily dose of metformin.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, headache, and skin rash. Hypoglycemia may occur when Glitin M 500 is used in combination with insulin secretagogues (e.g., sulfonylureas) or insulin. Lactic acidosis is a rare but serious potential side effect associated with metformin.  

Precautions: Renal function should be assessed before initiating Glitin M 500 and periodically thereafter. Use is contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment (eGFR < 30 mL/min). Caution is advised in patients with a history of pancreatitis. Hepatic impairment, heart failure, and excessive alcohol intake are also important considerations.  

Storage: Store below 25°C in a cool and dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
