Flurizin 5 Tablet contains 5 mg of Flunarizine as Flunarizine Dihydrochloride BP. 
It is manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC in Bangladesh.  

Indications: Flurizin is indicated for:  

• Prophylaxis of classic (with aura) or common (without aura) migraine.  
• Symptomatic treatment of vestibular vertigo (due to a diagnosed functional disorder of the vestibular system).  
• Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD).  
• Motion sickness.  
• Refractory epilepsy resistant to conventional antiepileptic therapy (as add-on therapy).  

Dosage and Administration:

• Migraine Prophylaxis:
  • Starting dose for patients less than 65 years of age: 10 mg at night. If the patient responds well, the maintenance dose can be reduced to 5 mg daily with two successive medicine-free days every week. Even if effective, treatment should be interrupted after 6 months and re-initiated only if a relapse occurs.
  • Starting dose for patients older than 65 years: 5 mg daily at night.
  • If depressive, extrapyramidal, or other unacceptable symptoms occur, the drug should be discontinued. If no significant improvement is observed after 2 months, the patient is considered a non-responder, and the drug should be stopped.  
• Peripheral Vascular Disease: 10 mg twice daily, up to 30 mg per day if required.  
• Vertigo & Motion Sickness: 10-20 mg daily for adults and 5 mg daily for children (weighing over 40 kg).  
• Epileptic Seizure: 15-20 mg daily in adults and 5 to 10 mg daily for children as an add-on therapy.  

Flurizin may cause drowsiness and this effect can be worsened by alcohol or other central nervous system depressants. Patients should exercise caution while driving or operating machinery. Flurizin is not meant to treat an acute migraine attack.  

Side Effects: Common side effects may include:

• Drowsiness and/or fatigue.  
• Weight gain and/or increased appetite.  

Less common side effects reported during chronic treatment:

• Depression (especially in women with a history of depression).
• Extrapyramidal symptoms (such as slowed movement, rigidity, restlessness, involuntary movements, tremor), especially in elderly patients.  
• Heartburn, nausea, stomach pain.  
• Insomnia, anxiety.  
• Abnormal milk flow (galactorrhoea), dry mouth, muscle ache, skin rash.  

Precautions:

• Use with caution in patients with a history of depression.
• Elderly patients may be more susceptible to extrapyramidal symptoms.
• May cause drowsiness, avoid alcohol and use caution while driving or operating machinery.  

Contraindications: Flurizin is contraindicated in patients with:

• Hypersensitivity to Flunarizine.  
• A history of depressive illness.
• Pre-existing symptoms of Parkinson's disease or other extrapyramidal disorders.

Drug Interactions:

• Galactorrhoea has been reported in some women on oral contraceptives when starting Flurizin.
• Hepatic enzyme inducers like Carbamazepine and Phenytoin may increase the metabolism of Flunarizine, potentially requiring a dosage adjustment.
• Excessive sedation can occur with simultaneous use of hypnotics or tranquillizers.  
• Dosage adjustment of antihypertensive drugs may be needed when used with Flunarizine.

Storage: Store below 30°C, protected from light & moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
