Flugal Powder for Suspension - (50mg/5ml)

Presentation:

• Each 5 ml of reconstituted suspension contains 50 mg of Fluconazole BP.
• Available in bottles containing powder for reconstitution to [mention typical bottle size, e.g., 35 ml or 70 ml] suspension.  

Indications:

• Systemic candidiasis.
• Mucosal candidiasis including oropharyngeal, oesophageal, non-invasive bronchopulmonary infections, candiduria, mucocutaneousand chronic oral atrophic candidiasis (denture sore mouth).  
• Cryptococcal meningitis.  
• Prevention of fungal infections in immunocompromised patients considered at risk as a consequence of neutropenia following cytotoxic chemotherapy or radiotherapy.  
• Genital candidiasis: acute or recurrent vaginal candidiasis; candidal balanitis.  
• Dermatomycoses: tinea pedis, tinea cruris, tinea corporis, tinea versicolor and dermal candidal infections.
• Deep endemic mycoses including coccidioidomycosis, paracoccidioidomycosis, sporotrichosis and histoplasmosis in immunocompetent patients.  

Dosage and Administration:

• Dosage depends on the nature and severity of the fungal infection. Always follow your doctor's instructions.   
• Adults:Dosage ranges from 50 mg to 400 mg daily, with higher doses sometimes used for severe infections.A single dose of 150 mg is usually effective for vaginal candidiasis.  
• Children: Dosage is based on body weight and the type of infection, ranging from 3 mg/kg to 12 mg/kg daily. A loading dose may be given on the first day in some cases.
• For prevention of fungal infections in high-risk children, the dose is 3-12 mg/kg daily depending on the extent and duration of induced neutropenia.  
• Flugal Powder for Suspension should be reconstituted with the specified amount of water as per the product label and administered orally. Shake well before each use.   

Pharmacology:

• Fluconazole is a synthetic broad-spectrum triazole antifungal agent that is highly selective for fungal cytochrome P450 dependent enzymes.It inhibits the fungal cytochrome P450 enzyme lanosterol 14-alpha-demethylase, resulting in a depletion of ergosterol, a critical component of fungal cell membranes.This disruption of ergosterol synthesis leads to increased cellular permeability and leakage of cellular contents, ultimately inhibiting fungal growth.  

Side Effects:

• Common side effects may include:
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Rash
• Less common side effects may include elevated liver enzymes, jaundice, dizziness, and taste perversion. Severe allergic reactions are rare.

Precautions:

• Use with caution in patients with liver or kidney dysfunction. Dosage adjustments may be necessary.
• Inform your doctor if you have any heart problems, especially irregular heartbeats.
• Fluconazole can interact with several other medications. Inform your doctor about all the medicines you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements.   
• Use with caution in pregnant and breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor about the potential risks and benefits.

Storage:

• Store the powder for suspension below 30°C.
• Keep the reconstituted suspension as directed on the label, usually refrigerated and used within a specific timeframe.
• Keep out of the reach of children.
