Facid BT Cream - (0.1% + 2%)

Presentation: Each gram of cream contains:

• Betamethasone (as Betamethasone Valerate BP) 0.1% w/w
• Fusidic Acid BP 2% w/w Available in tubes of [mention typical tube size, e.g., 15 gm or 30 gm].

Indications: Facid BT Cream is indicated for the topical treatment of eczematous skin conditions where secondary bacterial infection with susceptible organisms is either present or likely to occur. This includes conditions such as:   

• Atopic eczema  
• Discoid eczema
• Stasis dermatitis
• Contact dermatitis
• Seborrheic dermatitis  

Dosage and Administration: Adults and children: Apply a thin layer of Facid BT Cream to the affected area two or three times daily, or as directed by a physician. Treatment duration should be limited to the shortest period necessary to clear the condition. Prolonged use should be avoided.

Pharmacology: Facid BT Cream combines the anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstricting actions of Betamethasone Valerate, a potent topical corticosteroid, with the antibacterial activity of Fusidic Acid, an antibiotic that is effective against Gram-positive bacteria, particularly Staphylococcus aureus.

• Betamethasone Valerate: Reduces inflammation by suppressing the migration of polymorphonuclear leukocytes and reversing capillary permeability.
• Fusidic Acid: Inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by interfering with the transfer of amino acids from aminoacyl-tRNA to protein on the ribosomes.  

Side Effects: Side effects with Facid BT Cream are generally infrequent and mild. These may include:

• Local irritation
• Burning or stinging sensation at the application site
• Dryness
• Hypersensitivity reactions (e.g., rash, itching)  

Prolonged use of topical corticosteroids may lead to local and systemic adverse effects, including:

• Skin atrophy
• Striae
• Telangiectasia
• Acneiform eruptions
• Systemic absorption, potentially causing hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis suppression

Precautions:

• Facid BT Cream should be used with caution in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to corticosteroids or fusidic acid.
• Avoid contact with the eyes and mucous membranes.
• Use on the face should be limited due to the increased risk of skin atrophy.
• Prolonged use, especially under occlusion, should be avoided due to the increased risk of systemic absorption.
• If signs of hypersensitivity or superinfection with non-susceptible organisms occur, treatment should be discontinued and appropriate therapy instituted.

Contraindications: Facid BT Cream is contraindicated in:

• Primary bacterial, viral, or fungal skin infections unless adequate treatment for the infection is also administered.
• Acne vulgaris
• Rosacea
• Perioral dermatitis
• Pruritus without inflammation
• Perianal and genital pruritus
• Dermatoses in children under one year of age, including dermatitis and napkin rash.

Pregnancy & Lactation:

• Pregnancy: Topical administration of corticosteroids to pregnant animals can cause abnormalities of foetal development. The relevance of this to humans has not been established; however, they should not be extensively used in large amounts or for prolonged periods in pregnant women.   
• Lactation: There is no information on the excretion of topical fusidic acid into breast milk. Corticosteroids are excreted in breast milk. Caution should be exercised when Facid BT Cream is administered to a nursing woman.

Storage: Store below 25°C. Keep out of the reach of children.
