Emcon 1 

Presentation: Emcon 1 tablets contain 1.5 mg of levonorgestrel.

Indications: Emcon 1 is an emergency contraceptive pill used to prevent pregnancy after unprotected intercourse or a known or suspected contraceptive failure. It should be taken as soon as possible, preferably within 12 hours, and no later than 72 hours (3 days) after the unprotected sex. It is not intended for regular use as a method of contraception.

Dosage and Administration: One tablet of Emcon 1 should be taken orally as a single dose. It can be taken at any time during the menstrual cycle. If vomiting occurs within 3 hours of taking the tablet, another tablet should be taken immediately. After using emergency contraception, it is recommended to use a local barrier method of contraception (such as a condom) until the next menstrual period.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, fatigue, headache, dizziness, and breast tenderness. Changes in menstrual bleeding patterns, such as spotting or earlier or later periods, may also occur.

Precautions: Emcon 1 should not be used as a regular method of contraception. It is more effective when taken as soon as possible after unprotected intercourse. It does not protect against sexually transmitted infections. Its effectiveness may be reduced if taken with certain other medications, such as some anticonvulsants (e.g., phenobarbital, phenytoin, carbamazepine) and antibiotics (e.g., rifampicin, griseofulvin). If a regular hormonal contraceptive pill is being used, continue taking it as usual after using Emcon 1. If a period does not occur at the expected time after using Emcon 1, a pregnancy test should be performed.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
