Ecovit 400

Presentation: Each soft gelatin capsule of Ecovit 400 contains Vitamin E (as alpha-tocopherol acetate) BP 400 IU. It is available in blister packs containing strips of capsules, with the number of capsules per strip and pack determined by Globe Pharmaceuticals Ltd. in Bangladesh.

Indications: Ecovit (Vitamin E) is indicated for the treatment and prevention of Vitamin E deficiency. Vitamin E is also suggested for use as an antioxidant to promote, prevent, and treat various health conditions such as:

  • Age-related macular degeneration
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Improving male infertility
  • Premenstrual syndrome
  • Painful menstrual periods
  • As a dietary supplement for overall health and well-being.

Dosage and Administration: The dosage should be determined by a registered medical practitioner based on the individual's needs and the condition being treated. General guidelines are:

  • Vitamin E deficiency: Adults: 200-400 IU daily. Children: 200 IU daily.
  • As an antioxidant/supplement: 400-800 IU daily.
  • Specific conditions may require different dosages as recommended by a physician.

The capsules are for oral administration and should be swallowed whole, preferably with food to enhance absorption.

Side Effects: Vitamin E is generally well-tolerated at recommended doses. High doses (greater than 1000 IU daily) may occasionally cause mild and transient gastrointestinal disturbances such as diarrhea and abdominal pain. Fatigue and muscle weakness have also been reported with very high doses.

Precautions: Ecovit is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Vitamin E or any component of the product. It should be used with caution in patients with Vitamin K deficiency or those taking anticoagulant medications, as Vitamin E may enhance the anticoagulant effect. It has been reported to increase the risk of thrombosis in patients predisposed to this condition, including those taking estrogens. There is no strong evidence of the safety of high doses of Vitamin E in pregnancy, especially in the first trimester, and its use during lactation should be approached with caution.

Storage: Store in a cool and dry place, protected from light and heat. Keep out of reach of children.
